At my workplace parking lot, I do see in the summertime some rather fancy cars. One colleague has a Bently, and another an Aston Martin. Now that the weather has turned bad, they drive more prosaic cars such as BMWs. These fancy cars are expensive fun, but not the ones to use for regular business.
As for me, I take my reliable Toyota Corolla on a daily basis, come rain or shine. This modest Canadian-made Japanese branded car just works and works with no fuss. Just like my Bessa R.
One camera that has really impresed me is the Kodak Medalist II. If Kodak had only continued making such impressive, superb quality gear.... If GM had only continued making Cadillacs the way they made them in the 40s and 50s....
Well, enough mixed metaphors.

People buying boats, me included, telescopes, my relatives, and it is used just few times per year.
Comparing to Leica or Lamborghini it is even more unpractical.

you're describing the reasons i sold my ducati years and years ago. it was the right decision, but one that i'm sad about to this day.
oh, financially i should have just put the thing up on blocks and resold it this year. M9 financial performance probably won't be like that.

Never drove a Ferrari or a BMW further than moving it from one side of the shop to the other but I can promise you one thing - I can drive the piss out of both if given the chance...and I can do vintage or new drive by wire....auto or stick. And I can handle the upholstery too 🙂
That being said I drive a truck and own a bunch of cheap old but nice cameras..used nearly everyday! 😉
Shooting bokeh studies with a Nikon EM woman's camera and 105 using BW Kodak today as a matter of fact. (Fair Lady Nissan maybe? Miata? Automatic of course 🙂 )

What would be a 1969 Camaro convertible. I had a used one back in the seventies. I think it is the best styling Camaro ever. I cannot think of any US made camera that screams "right-on bro".

It is pretty easy to reverse the analogy, and it's seems to me that the reverse is the usual way the question is asked.
So it would be 'I have a Land Rover, will a Ferrari make me a better driver?' And the potential for an sad outcome is the same transposed into cameras. Lots of money is spent and it neither makes the photographer or driver any more skilful. After a few years practice you can either take a good snap or drive skilfully, or you can't, and if there isn't an innate feel for the subject buying results has never worked. It is still possible to be happy in ownership, but at 70m.p.h. not 100 m.p.h.
And the sad outcome? Well we've all heard it before, 'I bought a Leica/Ferrari and it broke/crashed, the controls are primitive, my Ford/Nikon gives me better mileage.' And another Leica/Ferrari basher is born.
