Hey group!

Bought a Bessa R and 35mm f/2.5 Skopar lens from cameraquest. (What a great buying experience!)

Have loaded some C41 B&W for a drug store develop to test focus.

First impression is great! Overall camera build seems good with view finder very bright, but shutter seems loud.

I plan to use camera for family snaps and some travel.

Now to do something about this camera addiction!

Steve.

Steve,

Welcome. The R is a great camera to start with. IMHO, it has the best price/value ratio out there.

Loud is a releative thing. It is more than a Leica M, less than a Nikon FTn. I've used a Bessa T and L for years and yes, once there was a place where I wish it was quieter (was not allowed to be taking pictures), but other than that, they have been fine. Yes they are louder than my Ms, but they also cost a whole lot less.

The R has a fine viewfinder, takes LOTS of lenses. I got one for my son to learn photography with and he loves it.

Welcome to a great place to learn, share and grow.

Steve, you are in for lots of fun with the R and this(RFF) is the place to do something about "this camera addiction"--roll up your sleeve mostly. Oh, wait you aren't trying to fight it are you? Don't look now, but this place is "Enablers R Us"😀
Hope to see some photos!
Rob

Steve:

I've got the bessa r with the 35/2.5 and it's useful all-around combo. Works very well street shooting and I've also taken portraits with it. However, the lens is painfully sharp and every zit shows.

Thanks to each of you for the replies. This is a great forum with a lot of friendly people.

I have a roll loaded but have not fired the shutter on a single frame! Work keeps getting in the way.

When I have the roll developed, I will report back.
Steve.

Welcome Steve,

I'm waiting my R shipped from CameraQuest, I'm in Italy so it will be take much more time to arrive.....

Post the roll once develop!

Nico,

You are a seriously great photog! I need to spend more time on your gallery.

Can you let me know a little about your b&w?
Like, what film, dev, are you scanning prints or negs?
Is it tri-x?

thanks.
Steve.
