You won't need a dark room, if scanning!....twenty minutes, in the kitchen sink!.....easy!

One thing I have discovered is that I am awful, awful at estimating distances. For a lot of the candid shots I made, I didn't have the luxury of taking time to focus, so I tried to pre-focus a lot, and the first attempts were very spotty. I hope it would improve with time.

Really nice shots! THX! Maybe you consider to use a Wide-Angle-Lens like the CV Snapshot Skopar 4/25. Combined with a fast BW film its great for candid street shooting.

Nice! If these three pics are anything to go by, then you have a bright Leica future ahead of you.

Film processing and the chemicals that go with it aren't for everybody - don't feel pressured.

Dave - Thanks. Unfortunately I'm so hopeless newbish in film development, that I don't even really knew what you meant by "scanning". Anyway I will do a bit more research in due course and come back to you for further tips.

Bavaricus - That's a great idea. Now if I can get used to shooting off-viewfinder that would work even better for candids ...

My struggles continue ...

Hi. Thanks to all the folks who offered warm encouragement over the past week or so.

Two rolls came back over the weekend. One roll was ... ruined because I opened the back cover BEFORE I rewound the film. I don't know what I was thinking.

The second roll was still very spotty. A typical example of getting the framing, exposure and the DOF wrong ... :bang:

The only picture that I felt did anything for me is this one.

(Small added bonus: The advertisement on the bus on the left says "you can walk on without worry" in Chinese.)

One pic out of 72 is not a very good ratio ... 🙁

Hopefully next week gets better!

I thought Leicas ARE the hard stuff. Are fixed-lens RFs a gateway drug?

YES! I started my second life with film using a Yashica Electro 35. Then a Canonet QL17. Then a flirtatious period with Canon SLRs. Then a Fed 2. Then a Bessa R. Then a Canon P. Now?

Now I'm hooked on an Leica M2.

So be afraid after you start experimenting with fixed lens rangefinder cameras. I think there was a film out in the 40s warning parents of this evil, high school students ruining their lives after a progression similar to this!!!! Be VERY afraid. 😉

Oh. And don't even think of getting me started on my lenses!
