I just got a Canon IIF with a Serenar 50mm/1.9 lens. I am using a light meter, and just took my first and second rolls of film and got them back from the developer. I noticed that on many of the pictures there is one or maybe two bright spots of light on the developed image in the upper middle or upper right sections of the picture. (see pic attached) Usually, the first shot of a scene was flawed in this way, and subsequent shots in which I "bracketed" the f stop either up or down were either better or the spots of light were gone completely. Do I have a problem with the camera or the lens (or the photographer)???

Is that fixable?

Yes, it's quite fixable.

The hole is quite tiny - that's why after the shutter has been still in from of the film for awhile the leak is brighter but shots done fairly quickly don't show anything.

You can try to paint over the holes but the better solution is to have the curtains replaced. Youxin Ye will put new curtains & give it a CLA for $120. Considering that a IIF dates from 1953, it could probably use a tiny bit of pampering after 56 years 🙂

Hope this helps,

William
