I bought a digicam that is great for posting images. Here's my kiev collection

I made the image brighter. Get rid of green. Update with lens jupiter 3, 9, 11, 12 and helios 94 for kiev 5. A very beautiful light reflection from different glass coatings.

I have to go to a low tech to fix the green cast. My kiev 4m-5. The cameras are fully functional. Most of them went through some kind of adjustment.

Mm.. a joy to my eyes. Now, I feel myself pathetic with only one 4A type 2 :)

It looks like the photoshop gave a green cast.

When shooting under flourescent lights, make sure that you set the white balance to that instead of leaving it on "auto".

Auto-Color Correction in PS works okay too.

Soap/water for glass. Alcohol for the rest. Toothbrush, Q-tips, toothpick, and paper towels. They are what you need to clean up "dirty" kieves. Treat them with respect, and they'll serve very well.

pangkievrange, what a beautiful collection -- one to be proud of. Thanks to a trade today with FrankS I just acquired my first Kiev -- a 4am.

One technical quibble -- Photoshop didn't add any green cast. The scanner or the digicam likely did. Photoshop just shows what you feed it, then you can readjust the colours to the balance you prefer.

The machined grooves on those cameras act like crud magnets. I spent about an hour cleaning this Kiev with alcohol, cotton swabs, toothpicks and pieces of an old cotton t shirt. I get "Solon 362" cotton swabs for $9 per 1,000 at a local pharmacy. Medical supply stores also sell them. They're just as good as the more expensive swabs sold at electronic supply stores. I use rubbing alcohol and sometimes naptha or lighter fluid. I once used alcohol on a Zenit EM and removed all the white lettering! :bang:
I don't put any water on the glass. I just brush off the dirt, breathe on the glass and clean it with a microfiber cloth.

Never seen before 22 beauties together in a table like your babies!!
I was feeling quite well with my only Kiev 4 but now....
Guess you started another serious GAS attack on me...

Now seriously, congratulations for that beatifull collection you have!

Ernesto.

Impressive! I hope to amass a collection of cameras like yourself, but I'm broke and need to get another job :(

Do you think that another or new job would help??
I guess you should think about the lottery instead....
Say Us 20 M... would it be enough?

Regards to all!

Ernesto

Just out of curiosity, how many of the meters work dependably, in other words, accurately?

I have three Kievs (notice capital letter!) - a 3, a 4, and a 4a. The 3 and 4 have meters, but, of course, not the 4a. All three have the J-8 lens (one a J-8M), and the 4a, purchased from Fedka in NYC, also has a Helios 103. I'm not overly concerned about outside appearance, just that they function as picture takers. After all, they do have a few years on them.

It is said that about 60% of them work more or less decently (plus or minus 1 or 1 1/2 stops out of correct metering), however you must think that a selenium cell weakens with age, and depending on how well or bad it was stored/treated (in regard o temperature, humidity shocks, or a combination of all them), the dependability of the cell and hence the meter varies widely.
In many of them, unless the cell itself is broken (or dead) you have some means to adjust it to give at least accurate exposures on sunny days.
Other thing is when the potmeter located underneath the exposure calculator dial is broken (as in mine).
If a meter has been decently cared, it will last for at least 20 years without serious problems, just a slight touch will bring it back to specs.
Ernesto.
