Someone spontaneously offered to buy your camera ?
That's never happened to me, but my film cameras never fail to leave an impression on people, good or bad !

Last year during a walk in Paris a businessman from Texas, being there on vacation, spontaneouslly offered to buy my Nikon S3 and gave me his card. I might still have it somewhere.

I was walking in the streets with a friend carryng his Leica MM and so, I advised the Texan to make an offer for it two. "Nope !" he uttered, "That's only that hell of an old Nikon of its own class that I want !".

People never make remarks or comments when I carry a Leica around my neck, but if it's my S2... for some reason, they have to say something, usually to the tune of "they don't make them any more like they used to," or some such thing.

But then, it's always a nice thing they say.

However, never have I gotten any offer on any camera. I couldn't say yes to it. It'd be like selling my son... :)

The person has good taste. Buy them a cup of coffee.

I've had comments about my doing things retro but never an offer to buy.

Never sell her, not enough of them made.

I've had women slip me pieces of paper with their phone number, or asked me if I have time for "lunch," but no offers for my camera. Sometimes I think I'm Napoleon or Ansel Adams, too. I have had some ask how much my camera was worth, generally in sketchy neighborhoods, and for obvious reasons I always give a ridiculously low figure.

The only instant offer I ever had was for my Nikon F3 while in Jerusalem. At the time the F3 was still available new. I assumed the would-be buyer was trying to circumvent the high import tax on such items. I politely declined and avoided entering the black market.

I've been embarrassed shooting the M8 with comments on how great it is seeing someone still shooting film, perhaps that's why it doesn't get out much. (I'm not a chimper, especially after they have commented )

I frequently take photos in Vietnam, a country with a rich tradition of 'professional photographers' on the beaches, near temples and other national treasures. Since a few years back, they've all switched from Nikon F's to DSLR's -mostly entry model Canon's with a 50mm lens. Whenever they see me with a Leica, Zeiss-Ikon or Epson rangefinder camera it's all happy faces and a lot of curiosity...show me that thing...I used to know this camera...

I think it's because Leica's are very popular and you see more of them the
the Nikon and Voigtlander's rangefinder's you don't see as much.
