My local Costco film processing will be out soon

I sent my last batch of film (five rolls) to my local Costco, they came back labeled "N/C" (no charge) and I was told half the films were unable to scan due to erhhh, processing errors, no charge.

Half of the film frames like these I posted in here. I guess film is over, at least for me, except may be BW which I can control the processing quality. However, the increasing cost of film has made me wondering it is time to give up film.

Ouch.. and I thought CVS did a job on the film I gave them... at most they only wrecked a couple of shots and damaged a couple of others (but fixable in photoshop).

Frankly, if someone completely wrecked a roll I gave them for processing, I would also expect them to compensate me for the cost of the film. Obviously there is no way to compensate for the shots that are lost...

Just sent four rolls to NCPS, at the recommendation of Ken Rockwell. ROFL!

Not paying more for the scanning, just processing. We'll see how they look when they get back.

I guess either find yourself a better lab, or process yourself. The last shot looks salvageable, if they're important to you.

I have been sending all my black & white and the few rolls of color that I shoot to NCPS for several years and they do a very nice job on developing and scans. If I need tiff scans I send them to Photo Craft Imaging in Boulder. CO (http://www.pcraft.com/). They do a terrific job on tiff scans. - jim

I took a roll of b/w to Costco today. Sorry we have gone all digital as of two weeks ago he said.Try or other store,it still has a processor working for now.🙁🙁🙁🙁😡😡:bang:

The Costco closest to me has gone from 7 day/week processing to only processing C-41 on Wednesday and Saturday. The surrounding Costco stores are entirely digital now. Not that I'm particularly happy with their work, they're very low cost but my negatives always come back with a TON of scratches.

Costco exited our area about a year ago. I use NCPS a lot but sometimes I just have to go local and CVS (it's a Kodak processor) has done my C-41 work and it's not bad.

The manager of my local Costco is also the treasurer of the local camera club and a big film fan, so she's particularly careful about training her staff to handle negatives carefully and to avoid dust and fingerprints. However, when headquarter decides to pull the plug on film development, it'll be over for me as well.

I guess the future of film is not bright, film may be not dead yet but I cannot afford $5+/roll plus develop, just not economic to use film anymore. In the old day when our camera damaged and labeled as BER (beyond economic repair), now is the film BEU

I send almost all of my film to Precision Camera (a forum sponsor) or NCPS. Both do an excellent job.

For C41 there is no better deal anywhere than Precision Camera, especially considering their outstanding scans.

I just don't get these photo services going digital only? A dedicated printer is fine for 4X6's, and if I want larger I tend to go with an online service that specializes in pictures. Film is where I want a local point of contact.. and if possible get real enlargements done, not simply printing larger.

One of our local Costcos has quit film altogether. They refer you to another location about 5 miles away. Speaking to the people there they said it's a matter of time before they too will quit processing, probably by the end of the year.

The good news, they're really cheap as long as they're still doing it.
