It's like new. I didn't even know the two red dots on the rewind spindle were red 😀

It's had a full service, new M6-style light seals which were badly needed (the old advice to change lenses in subdued lighting really applied to this one) and the VF prisms split, cleaned, resilvered and recemented because the balsam was beginning to fail around the edges. You honestly can't tell it's been done because the VF and RF images are just as they should be.

Best of all, it no longer sounds and feels dry and the shutter thunks rather than clangs. The weirdest thing that's been fixed is the irritating tendency for the film to jump the sprockets when winding to the first frame - I have no idea what caused this, but I pointed it out and it seems fine now.

There is enough film in the freezer to keep it going for 5 years at least. Hopefully film will outlast me; you never really own a Leica, you just look after it for a while.

Glad to hear you can enjoy your M2 again . Peter did my M2 a few weeks back and did a similarly wonderful job. It feels like a different ,and infact, new camera. The challenge now will be for you find enough film to wear it out again !!!

Hi there. Seems like you had great service from them. I have an M6 classic and a couple of older lenses that would benefit from a CLA. If you don't mind divulging the costs, what might I expect to pay for work. I know it depends on the amount of work needed, but ball park figures might help me plan for the work. Regards Robin.

Robin,

I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but Peter at CRR has a price guide on his website here:

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info on the CRR website. i followed the link and viewed the price list. I will give them a call and find out what they can do for my kit. Thanks again. Regards Robin.

I'm about ready to send my M2 off for a CLA, film advance repair and lightseal attention. Was considering giving it to Red Dot Cameras as i can cycle there and hand it over.

It looks like CRR would want around £250 for this. We'll see what RDC say.

Just checked the home page of CRR and noted that there is a note stating that they are not receiving repairs till February 2012. Is this normal? I have seen good reports on Wil van Manen and might send kit over there. Any suggestions on other service centres. I'm in Scotland. Robin.

Robin,

It might be worth telephoning Peter, and having a chat with him to see how busy he is. I know others here have been put off by the note on the website, but found on telephoning him that he's been able to fit them in.

Alternatively, Malcolm Taylor (in Herefordshire) carries out top-notch work. His contact details are on this site (I can't remember quite where), or just google his name and Leica.

Hope this helps,

John
