I recently got a GS off of eBay for a rather good price. It came with an electronic flash and two Yashikor aux lenses. However, the viewfinder was extremely cloudy, and there was no characteristic "thunk" when you wound the camera. So, I bit the bullet and sent it off to Mark Hama. It just came back today, and I am chomping at the bit to try it out. The viewfinder is now crystal clear, and the trademark "thunk" is quite prominent. I was surprised to see that Mark replaced the whole top plate and the plastic battery container. It looks wonderful, and appears to function perfectly. I do have a question about the light meter. Is it only operational when the shutter button is depressed? That would seem to make sense, otherwise the meter would be on full time, which would cause the battery run down. Also, does anyone know where I can procure a lens cap for this camera. It didn't come with one, and although I do have a 55mm UV filter that I can screw on, I'd just as soon have a lens cap.

Rem,
If you don't mind me asking, how much was the work at Mark Hama's? I have a GSN that has a sticky shutter (only at f16 though), so I'm contemplating sending it to him for a CLA and repair.

The cost is $95, but that is a complete overhaul rather than just a CLA. All damaged parts are replaced, and the overhaul is guaranteed, parts and labor, for six months. This is the second camera that I have had overhauled by Mark. He did a QL17 for me last month that was really a basket case. The camera now works perfectly. Yashica's, especially Electro 35s, are his specialty, since he worked assembling those cameras in Japan before coming to this country. He knows them backwards and forwards.

"Sticky shutter@f16" - if this means "not closing shutter @f16 in AUTO mode", I'd revisit POD and work aperture ring dozen times from end to end to "clean" contact.
