A new addition to my collection, this is the crown jewel. A ‘brand new’, that is previously unused and mint condition 1955 Leica IIIf red dial, with self-timer and 50mm Elmar f3.5 (red scale) picked up in Copenhagen during shopping expedition following the Leica One Challenge 2012.

The camera and lens shine like new, there is not a mark on them. The rangefinder is perfectly clear, and the lens glass is perfect. The camera appears, so far, to be in perfect working order. It appears to have come from a collector who bought it, then stored it, with fresh case, without ever using it. The original leather case itself looks like one made this year.

Although I love to collect cameras as beautiful objects, it makes no sense to me if they cannot work and I don't use them. The intention is to use this camera, albeit very carefully and sparingly so I can hopefully keep it in its pristine condition for as long as I have it. I have already put a couple of films through it and just got the results - I'm happy.

I'm very happy with this lovely new addition to my collection, which is without doubt the best condition camera in it, incredibly so considering it is nearly 60 years old.

Wow, what a find! I inherited an old Leica IId that my dad had been sold as a supposed M3 and am debating whether it's worth a CLA (very dim viewfinder and rangefinder, otherwise working well).

It's a beauty Nick! Congratulations with this find. But careful, it's sitting there very pretty on that metal structure above the pavement, but dangerously!
Cheers,
Huub

Here are a couple of photos taken with the first 2 films I put through it
(Tri-X 400, and Kodak 3200 @ 1600; both with the Elmar 50/3.5 mint lens).

Awaiting development of a coulour film now...
The camera is back in its case in a cupboard safe and clean now - but will come our on the occasional Sunday.

It is best not to store the camera in the leather case. Leather, being organic, can grow fungus which could affect the camera & lenses. You've probably noticed the musty smell that you get with old camera cases.

green with envy! fabulous find. so good going to be used, even carefully. meant to be used. the leather case may cause problems..check for smells..
my pal always wants me to use one of his 111 series..
so small.so neat. amazing images with that awful viewfinder..HCB, Etc and my pal, Larry.

Lovely camera.

I owned a couple of them many years ago, and found them to be great little workhorses.

Mind you, none of mine were in any where near as good condition as yours!

Have fun with it.

John
