Titular M3 and lens arrived in the post this morning, and after burning through a quick lunch-hour test roll, I feel pretty good about selling my M2 to fund the new machine sight-unseen.
I never really bonded with the M2, nice as it was - I'm a full-time eyeglass wearer and couldn't see the 35mm lines at all, while the 50mm lines gave me a lot of wasted space in the finder (I've been an SLR guy too many years to make use of that space). The M3's 50mm lines pretty much exactly fill all the viewfinder I can see; nothing is hidden & nothing is wasted.
I'm now willing to opine that the M3 rangefinder "snap" is a real, significant, and beautiful thing.
Short of pulling the test roll out of the fix, everything seems to be working, but my question for M3 users is: with the lens off, I can jog the frame selector around and get all three frames. With the lens on, I can only preview the 90mm. Is this normal for the DR?
