My New Sony Nex-3 Body!

Tried the macro setting with the Zeiss 50 ZM but I don't think it made any difference to the focus distance. Anyway, Spring has sprung over here. Time to master colour with this combo.

I tend to buy things as they are being closed-out, not when they are introduced. So I'm waiting for a really low price on a silver Nex-3 body only, then I'll take it. Want a backup body, eventually.

My own personal (reversed) product cycle.

There will be a new Nex 3 and about 6 months later a new nex-5, along with a nex-7 and several new e-mount camcorders.

Planned release for the new nex-3 was this spring, but I imagine the catastrophe in Japan will delay it. It has an improved body and 1080 video.

Current Nex-3s should get VERY reasonable.

Hi there, yesterday, I got my Nex-3. Here are some size comparisions and photos.

The Nex-3 and my smallest P&S, the mju-ii (Stylus Epic).

I have no Sony lens, but the possible cheapest Minolta MD-Nex Adapter (at least here in Germany), that I can get.

The Minolta MC Rokkor-PF 50/1.7. You can notice the adapter between the lens and the camera.

The RMC Tokina 25-50/4 lens. Very nice focus range at a 1.5x crop camera. By the way, the lens has a normal size, it's the camera body, that is so small.

Three photos with the Tokina lens (with some post-production):

Last but not least...

The smallest lens I have (execept for the Leica ones): the Industar 50/2, via M42-MD via MD-Nex Adapter ;)

Made with the Industar lens at f3.5 (the widest one).

Dan, I would contact the manufacturer and let him know what you're up to. He is a very nice guy to deal with (his name is Gary, if I remember correctly.) I suggest the premium lens, so the whole screen is visible.

I hope you like the new contraption. It works wonderfully well, for me.

OK, this is getting tempting. However, following the dpreview thread, seems a few folks are having their JJC hoods breaking. So is there a better folding hood for the NEX, or, a non permanent way to attach the modded clearviewer (velcro?) so if the folding hood breaks, you don't lose the clearviewer too?

Ha! Well, I'm glad someone is making some money from my little invention. :)

Yeah - it is a cool invention. I received the LCD hood last night, and hacked off the tripod adapter from my clearviewer. Your invention works like a charm, but I'm not much of a DIY'er, so what I did ended up messy. Also, I used Loctite (for plastic) and it started to dissolve some of the plastic. All my fault, but the rig itself works beautifully.

just noticed from your photo

just noticed from your photo

that your folding hood doesn't say JJC, the ones that some are having reliability issues with. Could you say which vendor you picked yours up from? Thanks.

Also, curious, what kind of glue/adhesive are you going to use to put the clearviewer on to the folding hood with?

I invested another ten bucks on a flip-out screen cover, which arrived yesterday from Hong Kong. Works very well, I think I will leave it on all the time. Does not get in the way of the halfcase at all. I like it. And now I have an extra clear plastic Nex screen cover, which I will need to sell off.

Here's Nex-3 with my fave 35mm Canon F1.5 RF lens. Used it extensively at a rock concert last night. The kids were playing at the Newport, which is a great local rock venue and by far their favorite place to play. Will probably post some Nexshots later from the show.

Thinking about buying a magnifier to glue on to this new flip-out. That is a great idea, I have to say. I like the idea of putting some of Cameraleather's Hasselblad material on the back, too. The black plastic is a little plain-looking.

I am using the JJC hood, and I've had no problems, yet. I am careful when opening and closing it, but not overly careful. I'd guess a semi-permanent adhesive may be a good idea, although I'd bet Gary at Clearviewer would sell just the attachment plate for pretty cheap, if it does break.

For glue, I used Loctite Super Glue Control liquid, but that was just because it was the only thing I had when I got the inspiration, so I have no idea which adhesives would be better or worse.

For my cameraleather, I actually attached the Clearviewer first, and then cut out the leather around it, so there are tiny seams, but it looks okay.

I'm glad some are starting to enjoy using this gadget. It's really changed the camera for me, and the alleged peaking feature coming in the next firmware will make it even better!

I got one of these the other day, justified it to myself by deciding I would soon try to sell my R2M. I think I'm going to really dig using it with the tiny CV 25mm Color Skopar; Nikon adapter will be NEXt.
