My new to me Konica FS-1 arrived today.....

It looks like a demo!!..
I had to clean up the battery compartment that had a very small amount of green crud on two springs for the (-) contact.
With new high quality Duracells, the camera powered right up!.

Motor good, lightmeter good, LEDs in VF are all good.

Shutter sounds good at all speeds,

I do have an X24 flash (made for the FS-1), and the flash sync is good, and with lens in AE mode, I set either of the 2 auto modes on the flash, and the camera closes down to the correct f/stop set by the flash. The VF shows the set f/stop also with an LED.

It even has an external flash sync outlit 🙂

With my Konica 57mm f/1.2 Hexanon AR mounted, it feels very solid.

I have an FS1, feels great to use, and those lenses are just wonderful, you have a great example there.

I'd love to give the 57mm a try, (or even see one in the flesh haha).

It's a solid camera, although dependent on electronics which likely aren't repairable. I found the shutter release on mine to be fussy; I mostly use a T4 when I use Hexanon lenses. I should get my FS-1 out and give it a spin, maybe shoot with the Hex 40 vs the Summicron 40 😀

My new to me Konica FS-1 arrived today.....

I still have mine, though it has been sitting on a shelf for quite a while. Mostly used it with the 40mm f:1,8 pancake, very sharp.
I remember that it drained the batteries rather quickly but was quite reliable.
Honestly I thought Konica SLRs never stood out from the crowd. But most of the Hexanon lenses I owned really did shine.

You should have good fun with this camera, which had some unique features in its time (pre-winding of the film) and it is capable of delivering great pictures with this lens. 🙂

When I bought it second-hand some 25 years ago, I was quite disappointed. Pictures were soft. It came with a 35-70mm of an exotic brand (Tokura or whatever). Then I bought the 40mm for 50 francs (that would be around 10$) and that is when I realised what should have been obvious : the zoom lens was crap, the camera did its job very well.

The worst thing I could say about the bodies is that they're functional.

They do exactly what they're supposed to, and occasionally (like in the case of pre winding) smarter than you'd expect. I'd prefer aperture priority to shutter priority, but it's not an issue.

The lenses are wonderful, I'm going to have to dig mine out and give them a run out.

On the electronics issue, if they fail, I'll replace them. They're so much lighter than the mechanical ones that I'm happy to take the trade off.

I'm now feeling like I missed out on a deal about a year ago. There was an FS-1 at the local Goodwill for $25, and I was really tempted to add it to my collection to join my dad's T3n. For some reason I talked myself out of buying it, and now I regret that. I'm envious....

I my still get a T3 or T4... still deciding if I like the rewind... I leave the leader out when I rewind, the FS-1 is difficult to tell when just the leader is left...
hardly any tension with a slotless takeup spool.

The FS-1 has a very good meter and bright viewfinder. In my experience, it is more reliable then its successor, the FT-1. Some of the Hexanons, such as the 21mm f/4; 28mm f/3.5, 40mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.7 and f/1.4, 85mm f/1.8 and 135mm f/3.2 are excellent.

Make sure you get the right version. The earliest versions are best. Their smallest F-stop is 16. They also had a later version, which was a 5/5 design, not so good. And then there's the 28/3.5 Hexar (as compared to Hexanon), also not as good as the earlier versions. If you stick with lenses that are marked EE on the aperture ring, as compared to AE, you'll get the earlier, better versions. There's a website Buhla.de, that has detailed explanations of this issue.

The FT-1 was my second SLR, I loved that camera and used it for many years before trading it. I still have an Autoreflex TC that I was given by the store (owned my my cousin) at the same time as I bought the FT-1. I need to dig it out and see if it still works, I know I have 28mm and 40mm lenses with it.
