Selflessly Self-involved
Sick of sitting indoors every day and doing nothing worthwhile, I decided to jump on a train to bath to shoot a roll of film or two. Annoyed the Contax II still hasn't arrived, it was the Leica Standard. Also with me the Rolleicord III, but unfortunately England got too dark too quick.
Anyways, train was delayed, and the weather was dismal but not rainy. I take a few photo's and see a friend of mine at the ethnic shop she works in. On her advice I go to the shop 'Ace Cameras'.
One word.... SWEET. The shop is a cross between Jessops and your favourite little vintage camera shop that's been sat around for 50 years. The guys in there were really friendly, and they had RANGEFINDERS!! Also there were kodak folders in the window, a Bronica, etc. It was the Contaflex that caught my eye.
Damn those things are heavy!! There's also a Contarex whose speeds below 1/30 aren't reliable so it's sold as is for £60 (I nearly bought it but held out - I don't want ANOTHER camera!). Also instore was a IIIf, IIIg, M3, M2, M6... I handled the IIIg (being the only one I doubt I'll see again soon) and they are reeeeally nice. It had a collapsible f2.8 on it (camera + lens = £900 I think). Where my IIIc/Standard feel like solid workhorses, the IIIg felt like a camera of class. Apparently there is also a Leica I that has remained in storage since purchase, but they didn't have that on display. Also there was an M8, but the guy said he wasn't allowed to open it until the customer came in to collect the camera "something abour Leica users" he laughed.
Man... that shop REALLY didn't help my lust for cameras. If it wasn't for the price tags, I'd be planning my next purchase!
I'll have the Bath photo's developed soon, but until then, I thought I'd share my day with you all!
