Jamie,
Thanks for the feedback. I've let my photo blog languish a bit, through lack of direction. I can't decide whether to just link my Flickr stream (minus the typecast images) or focus on one thing like pinhole images or film camera images. My writing blog gets updated weekly, however.
Best wishes, I'll be following you.

I occasionally work on Treasure Island, in San Francisco Bay. The island was a military base until about 15 years ago when it was turned over to the City of San Francisco. Redevelopment of the old buildings has been a slow hit-and-miss process and many of the old buildings remain in a state of semi-abandonment. While on the island, I often go for strolls with my camera. Here are a few images from a couple of months ago.

I like the chaos in the eBay store picture.
Thanks, Frank. Yes... sort of like Ebay itself.

Joe, as you can see, I'm not narrowing my subject matter at the moment. I want to post images here for awhile before I decide if its necessary to narrow things down. I'm using this thread as sort of a box of 'work prints' for the time being. Viewer feedback and my own response when I look back through these might help me with the direction question.

Jamie,
I really like the "499 Auto Alpina" image, great job of isolating the composition from the clutter of everyday life. Looking forward to more.

Thanks, Joe. For sure there'll me more, but any good... only the freak accidents of my walks merging with subject matter will tell.

Great thread, Jamie.
I particular like your minimalistic color abstracts (such as the above) - somehow very Eggleston, but very Jamie too

Thanks, Roland. As much as I try to capture life on the streets of SF and Oakland, my 'eye' is probably more suited to images of a more quiet nature, like this one.

Greenhouse visit
Greenhouse visit
Every so often, I help out with fixing facility problems at the school at which I used to teach (its located on Treasure Island, in the middle of San Francisco Bay). They have a lovely little organic garden there, including a greenhouse that was built by the students in one of my math classes. The school makes an effort to incorporate traditional curriculum study with 'real world' activities, and the greenhouse was one such project.
Whenever I go out to the school, I always make sure to visit the garden and the greenhouse. Here are a few photos from a couple of days ago. All the images were made with the Fuji X-Pro1 and a Hexanon AR 28/3.5 lens.

It seems like I find myself often snatching some bit of the world when I'm out photographing the passing scene, enjoying the abstractions provided in the rectangle of the viewfinder. Here are a few from recent walks:

Tonight in the garden with new Ricoh GR
Tonight in the garden with new Ricoh GR
Tonight there was just enough light in the garden to take my new Ricoh GR out for its maiden voyage. I've always loved Ricoh cameras. They do something to my photographic efforts... they loosen me up. It all feels much more informal and playful. Maybe more on this later.
Post processing is with Silver Efex, the "Antique Plate 1" effect, then just a bit of cropping, burning, or dodging in Aperture.

Our new Oakland Bay Bridge
Our new Oakland Bay Bridge
Its open! Our new $6.5 BILLION (cough!!) eastern span of the Oakland Bay Bridge. Quite beautiful driving over it. The old truss-type bridge will be dismantled over the next few years. Anyone want some used steel covered in 80 years of gray paint?

I think you should switch to a B&W film camera. Too much colour, too many indistinct pictures - this gets depressing. Film will give you some discipline.

this set in the series (all five of them) is my favorite. Love the colors and subjects. The mattress is the best of the bunch.
Cheers, Bob
