I think you should switch to a B&W film camera. Too much colour, too many indistinct pictures - this gets depressing. Film will give you some discipline.

I've already spent 30 years with B&W and darkrooms... enough! I'm having too much fun with color now... even indistinct as they are. 🙂

I made these images yesterday, walking around Treasure Island (San Francisco Bay retired military base). I was trying out my new Metabones Speed Booster and some Nikkor lenses on the Fuji X-Pro1.

I am tired of darkroom.
It also affects my breathing..

In order to discipline your work, have prints made!
Small is fine. Place them where easily seen..a wall, the fridge,
whatever. Seeing them each day, will help.
Color is a massive problem.
It requires color matching in the different photos..
The "feel" has to be same, not similar..

Pixie, I like your suggestions. I do make prints, not enough though. I need to get back to my darkroom habit of making a set of work prints of everything I think are at all close to keepers. And I need a bigger space to look at them in. Given that's not going to happen in the near future, I'm going to try to start building up sets of 5x7 work prints and taking them elsewhere from time to time to study.

I sort of intuitively understand your remark about the "feel" having to be the same throughout a body of work, not similar. But I'm not precise about that... yet.

Nice Jamie! That Nikkor renders nicely.

Kent, yes the Nikkors are great. They are easily as nice as any of the Voigtlanders I've been using over the past few years. The Nikkors are obviously bigger, but a lot cheaper right now. And even with the weighty Metabones Speed Booster adapter attached, the Nikkors feel pretty good on the X-Pro1.

Yesterday was my first outing with the X-Pro1/Nikkor/Speed Booster combination. I want to get out into some landscape and low light scenery to see how this kit performs. I suspect I'll be happy enough. For RFF B&G 'meetings' I still have the quasi-rangefinder-ish X-E1/XF 35mm and Ricoh GR.

This is a great series, I especially love the similar backgrounds, which tends to emphasize the differences in subjects between each image. That X20 is working well for you.

Those street crossing shots are quite good. I like the lighting which causes people to stand out in a 3D effect.

Thanks, Roland. Yes.. if it wasn't for that rear-view mirror, you'd almost think it was taken from the motorcycle (at least how I remember the freeways feeling atop by old R75). 🙂

Thanks for the thought. San Francisco downtown streets are aligned in such a way that these canyons of light form at certain times of year that make these types of images possible. I happened to be there on the right day. 🙂
