Yes, I sent PM regarding Ffordes guess it didn't get delivered for some reason. However they do still have the Ricoh 28mm 2.8 with finder available.

Thanks chaps for your comments. I have not been online over the weekend but i'm back in the office now and replied to any outstanding PM's .

It's going to take some work to get this sorted. My wife was livid when i told her my insurance wanted to replace my RF by a 300 pound camera from comet. She told me: So you lose a diamond and they can replace it with a plastic one from Clair's . This isn't fair! .

Anyway, I will let you know how this works itself out as it may be the last 'collector camera' I will ever want to own.

Insureance laws may be different in London. In the USA, they probably wouldn't try, but one never knows. I was recently in an accident and the insurance company wanted to use a quote of online places within 250 miles. You can get a big spread that way, 250 miles all around.

Sorry for your loss and hope you get the insureance company to come around. Checking camera stores even more than ebay is probably a better bet. Camera stores will cost more, and it is likely where you will end up buying from.

I will also be personally checking gumtree and ebay on a regular basis to track down this scumbag.

With eBay you just have to set up a search for your camera model, that automatically e-mails you when new items which matches that search are put up for sale.

There is at least one photo shop with a good reputation here in Copenhagen, that helps customers in your situation. In your case they would help you find the new model that comes closest to your lost camera and which satisfies your needs, and they would help you write a sort of conformity-declaration with their stamp on it, so your insurance company can see that they cannot simply offer you a camera model that merely matches your lost camera in monetary value.
I should think that there are shops in London that would do the same for you, since they get your business, no matter who pays - you or your insurance company.

Hi Chaps,

Thanks for your emails, it's been really helpful. I've managed to sort myself out now finally and am at the stage where I would need to get a new camera in order to continue taking my weekend snaps.

Now I have established I really enjoy Rangefinders and their quirky behavior. I could go ahead and buy a second hand RD1s and hope it won't die on me due to unknown previous abuse, or I could spend a little more and get a leica M8. I don't really see the M8 as better, however I see it as a camera which can be repaired easily if it goes wrong (at least i think so). What i'm not sure about is how much it costs and how likely is a second hand M8 to go wrong.

If anyone has done what i'm planning to do and knows what kind of repair bill to expect, could you let me know?

It also may help to know how much people paid to get a RD1 repaired, including shipping...etc
