A few weeks ago I made an offer on an item in the classifieds. Never heard from the seller and then the ad was withdrawn. Last week I made an offer on an item and still have not heard from the seller. Two days ago I made an offer on still another item and have heard nothing yet. :bang:
Last night I made an offer, heard from the seller this morning and sent payment immediately. It should ship tomorrow.
I have bought and sold several items over the last few months with friendly communication but this has been an annoying week.
Ah, I feel better.

Advice--buy from David Murphy--a fellow Texan (displaced to LaLa land) and never have a problem. Maybe the Bush (unfortunately also a Texan--can we deport him?) economy has made everybody a little crazy.

maybe your offers were just too low?

Yes, but the seller should mention that lowball offers will not be responded to.
Reminds me--I have to respond to a lowball offer...:bang:

Good points but they weren't lowball offers. Two, in fact, were asking price. My point was, a seller should show a bit of interestt in selling the stuff. If I can't get a response in 24 hours, how long will I have to wait until the item is shipped?
When I sold an item, I responded quickly.
I never bother to respond to offers, unless I have specifically asked for offers.
Sounds kinda uppity, you are not doing us a favor trying to sell off something you don't want anymore.

Ducky,
GAS can attack anytime.
Sellers can get GAS and decide to keep their gear! Gear Keeping Syndrome! GKS
I have a new cure, it's called GRS, Gear Release Syndrome.
Just kidding

I still have not heards from any of the sellers mentioned in the OP. However, in the last 36 hours I have concluded two successful purchases using paypal and am happy with the correspondence. In one case I made an offer (not lowball) which was refused and I paid the asking price.
I'm tempted to say 'if you don't want to sell it, down put it out on the lawn with a price tag on it', but I might offend someone.
Nice comments, thanks.

Heya,
I haven't bought/sold anything for a while now, but I wanted to definitely back the comment regarding David Murphy. Three cheers to him!

If you have something to sell, you will have more success by stating a price rather than asking for offers, IMO.

Sent your lens today George! Probably will get it Tuesday or Wednesday.

A bit off topic, but it amuses me most when people put some stuff up with "best offer" pricing, do not bother to say in the text what approximate price category they are thinking of, and then complain about "lowball" offers.

The PM system does not work that well. If you PM a seller the odds that he will get it aren't good. If you do not receive a reply the most probable reason is that the seller never got your offer. I've had the same problem numerous times. I put my email address in my ads but most people ignore it and PM me anyway.

I have to agree
with Ducky on the lack of communication, in some cases, when sellers list an item for sale and don't respond to questions. I recently asked some questions about a camera which was up for sale here on RFF. The seller answered my question and asked a question of his own, I answered; no reply was forthcoming for several days. When I asked what was up with my answer and his camera, he indicated that the camera had sold to another buyer who (apparently) didn't ask any questions. I said a reply would have been nice; he said I was rude for asking what was up...I offer this ONE example, but I've had other inquiries go unanswered as well. The successful transactions always happen because the seller took the time to communicate with me. Ducky was one of those sellers.

This too may be off topic, and I've generally had great luck buying and selling here. But I bought a camera from one guy and it arrived broken. Said the camera was working fine when he shipped it, and that he could not refund my money for a long time because the funds had already been spent on baby formula (!!??) Suggested I let him know the price of the repair, but that he would not be able to cover it for a while.....

May I come in with an international question...?
I live in Germany, but I feel quite comfortable reading english forums. Writing english text is a different thing sometimes... so far, I did not use the Classifieds section here, because shippiing, customs and other things might be an obstacle for sellers or buyers.
What is your experience with international sales in RFF classifieds?
(What I have is a Leica M6, Crons 50&35, Canon LTM 2/100, Canon 3,5/135, Voigt 15 and 21, Canon VT deluxe w/ 2/35, a Linhof Press 70, a Contarex 4.5/21, and an EOS 3 and 1V... lots of stuff...now you know why I ask first.)

You'll be fine, I've sold from the UK to Europe and further on a number of occasions.

Except for one M3, which I sold within Japan, everything was sold and bought internationally, including my Noctilux. I always use EMS with tracking and insurance (Japan Post) and keep in contact with the buyer. I also state in my ads that possible import taxes have to be payed by the buyer and in the case that I am the buyer, I pay the import taxes in Japan.

You'll know that shipping within Europe is no different whatsoever from shipping between Munich and Berlin. We all use the same currency, and there's no customs or duties to pay ever.
I recently sent a camera from Portugal to The Netherlands in just a few days.

I recently advertised a camera in the classifieds.
A new member offered the asking price less shipping for cash and local pick up.
When I accepted his offer he replied that he would need to consider my 'offer', and despite two follow up PM's from me I never heard from him again.
