My RolleifLex 3.5 F

No not yet! Rollei is in Zurich. I'm in Perth, Australia. Still have to arrange shipping too.

The auction house, Schuler Auktionen, doesn't ship items and it looks like they get a cut from the local shipping company to pickup, pack and send. This will cost me roughly the price of the camera, about AU$500. It's worth it to me, the camera looks as good as new, but I have never paid that much for shipping from anywhere in the world. Exploring a few other shipping options...

Anyone know some kind person in Zurich? 🙂

That is insane 😱 I buy from overseas regularly and that is more than 5x what I've ever paid for registered post to Australia.

I knew the terms for shipping before I bid. It was clearly stated in the terms that the auction house does not pack and send, and that they had a shipping company that could arrange this. The auction house also state this on their website.

I knew what I was in for re shipping, as I got a quote from their preferred pack and ship company a week before the auction, hence I had a relatively low bid. I was just lucky that I had the second bid above the starting price (CHF300), and nobody bid above me.

They had several live auctions going at the same time and all expensive antiques, silverware, jewellery etc. My lot was 500th out of 750 in one of the auctions, so it was a reasonably large international auction, which moved very fast (about a minute per lot or less), probably with mainly European bidders. Nothing scammy about it. This was the auction the camera was in (the Rolleiflex is on page 3...)

All up, I'm quite happy about this, and looking forward to getting the camera.

well as it looks like a later model F (type 2 i'm guessing?) i would still say it's probably worth it at around 700 or so usd it seems like total? it looks mint.

I complained bitterly and the auction house found another shipper in Zurich who charged round AU$300 instead of the other mob's quote of over $500. They also put it into a custom made wooden crate then into card board shipping box. At over 7kg shipped priority FedEx, sounds quite reasonable.

For any unfortunate soul with nothing better to do, you can track the progress of my package on what I believe is FedEx flight FX5040:

Fedex

So now it has arrived and departed overnight from Charles De Gaulle airport in Paris from Zurich, presumably headed to Dubai. Then I expect it will fly to Singapore, then to Sydney and then Perth. Should have it in hand hopefully on Friday next week.🙂

Too bad the box won't have labels slapped on it from each of those "ports of call" -- sounds like it's making quite the grand tour. Hopefully it'll be there in a few days.

Finally got my Rolleiflex 3.5 F yesterday.

Apparently CLA'd at some point by Mr. Otto Baumgartnerof Rollei-Reparatur-Service in Zurich.

It was REALLY well packaged, heavy cardboard shipping box, stuffed with proper padding, and then a custom made extremely solid wooden box with steel corners and latches. I kept the box! Well worth the AU$300 for shipping Priority International FedEx, which took less than a week from Zurich to Perth, Australia and weighed in a 7kg.

The camera looks more or less new. Only real sign of use is a bit of surfacing scuffing and black paint off the lens filter holders.

The case looks new...

except for a bit of cracking at the narrow bits where it bends back to let the camera in and out. I probably should avoid using the case, as the inside cracking in two spots looks like it may eventually give way.

The Rolleinar 3 block II looks new...

Rollei R1 filter...

and the lens hood...

All controls are extremely smooth and the shutter is silky, fast and gives a very satisfying, efficiently quiet sound.

This camera is a real gem. I am a bit hesitant to take it out, as in this condition it's a collector's item and worth a LOT more than I paid (CHF320...about AU $600).

Also included is a brand new looking Rollei shutter release marked "Made in Germany" and "Zeiss Ikon" on top of the release.

The meter also looks to be working properly changing both indicators as the shutter speed and aerture are adjusted. But I haven't tested it with a light meter.

The viewfinder screen look bright and easy to focus, much more than I expected. I am sure I can live with this without a replacement screen!

Question: With the Rollie R1 filter, is this just a UV filter? Would it be suitable to have it on to taking lens permanently?

Anyway, some more very quick photos taken on my iPhone....

So jealous. I have a rolleiflex just like yours that doesn’t get too much love. I actually just listen in to sell and I instantly regret it. Mine isn’t as clean but definitely makes a beautiful image.

I have decided this camera is a user, and get used (and loved), it will! But without the case, which will go in the cabinet...

So to that end, I just bought a LowePro Adventura SH 140 II bag:

Nice Goldilocks size. Just extra space space for a light meter, film rolls, cleaning bits and filters.

Next is a strap. It needs to fit the camera loops without damage, be strong and comfortable.

beautiful. you're very lucky that it works well. i have been looking for one of these late models for a long time now and have returned ones costing twice the price as they are all in poor shape at this point.
