Been to Iraklio several times but I don’t have pictures 😏 (even though I wish I once had my camera with me when OFI Crete was on the same plane as I was).

My parents together with my uncle and my grandmother in 1994. Unfortunately all of them have passed away.
We used to spend our summers in those wooden huts. The grown ups were sleeping on beds outside, under the trees. Those wooden huts are about 20m away from the sea, in winter they had to empty them as the waves would go inside during storms.

My aunt in the late '98 - threading tabacco leaves in a sewing machine.
When I was younger all this would have been done by hand, using thread and long needles. Usually the whole vilage would join to help - today in my place, tomorrow in yours. As kids we were going from one house to the other trying to help. Eventually we were given sweets and send away as we were more of a hindrance rather than help. There were very strong social bonds created as a result of helping each other with the tabacco threading. Machines like this became available in the early/mid 90's.

This is a favourite of mine. It’s still there amazingly. I’ve taken many pictures of this wall but yet to get the one I want. From my 5 days school trip - Heraklion port (1995). The myth of Icarus and Daedalus on a wall mural
