Hi guys. This is my first time to have my works critiqued. I'll start off with my medium format shots using Ilford XP2. Be as brutally honest as you want. There's no better way to learn. Cheers

I can't get the third photo, at least here at my office. The second doensn't do much for me. It's OK, but just doesn't do much.

The first I like. My first thought was it was to out of focus. I liked the composition and the surreality. The more I looked, I thought the out of focus, intended or not, actually added to its surreal look. The darkness of the trees which my eye is led to by the wood walkway or whatever it is, work well together. I would like to see it with sharp focus just to compare, but the more I look at this, I think it is better this way.

Hope that is the way you looked at the photo too.

Thanks for the critiques guys.

Oftheherd, there were only two photos uploaded so far.

I agree with you guys that the second photo is not up to scratch. But what should I have done to improve on this?

Without getting into the technical side of things...

Depends on what you want to "say" with the picture I guess, But if I take the title "Mix Master" into account - If it were me, I think I would have gone in closer, from a lower angle, so as to put the mixer and his hand very much in the forground at the bottom of the picture - and then "silhouette" the rest of him up against the lighter background...

But this is just me (it´s all subjective 😉)

Hope you can understand my ramblings.

Cheers,

Meakin

Thanks for the critiques you have sent. They have been quite helpful.

This new photo was taken outside a church n our area. The man has an affliction called neurofibromatosis. He was begging on the street by the adobe wall of the church. He was being ignored by all the passers by and it felt as if he was non-existent or just part of the wall he was leaning on.

I decided on keeping the subject out of focus to make him look like he was merging with the wall.
