Myanmar - Yangon, Mawlamyine, Hpa-An

rather than adding too many of mine here photos I took on a short trip to Myanmar early December 2016, 5 days in Yangon and another 6 days between Mawlamyine and Hpa-An. A bit rushed but I had a great time and Myanmar proved to be a photographer's paradise. In Yangon I was together with a non photographer but in Mawlamyine and Hpa-An a had a real ball!

Gear I had taken was Sony A7 with 3 lenses, CV f4/21mm, Canon LTM f2/35mm and f1.4/50mm. I was happy with my choice of focal lenghts but let down by the 21mm. First almost exclusively used images came out increasinly bad. Only later I found out that it's rear lens block had become loose.

Mawlamyine, former Moulmein 300 km South/ east of Yangon, was the first capital of British Burma between 1826 and 1852.
That time many British used to live there, they are long gone but populations still is an interesting mix with a strong Hindu minority, also Christians and Muslims:

Hpa-An, capital of Kayin state, is only about 45km from Mawlamyine and there are quite a few interesting caves, pagodas and landscape on the way and around Hpa-An

Lovely photos kuuan. Do you have any pictures of the places you stayed during your travels?

I like the restraint you showed in adjusting the photos; the colors and textures of the subject do the talking instead of post processing effects. That is one of the things I've also appreciated about Micheal's pictures.

The scenic views and shots like the motorcycle rider are impressive, and the low angle shot of the monastery is really nice. The shots of people in their environment that really pull me in. The barber shop, noodle factory, and people on the street are wonderful.

Thank you for the reply. These photos are so exotic to me, and I was wondering whether your lodgings were also, or maybe much like anywhere else in the world. I could have worded it better but didn't know if you stayed in commercial lodgings, or with acquaintances, or some other arrangement.

hotels that sell on booking sites, pretty much like anywhere in the world. Old, renovated and adapted or new commercial buildings. In Myanmar it is adviced to book in advance and quality / price ratio of rooms is lower than further south east.

All are great. I was especially intrigued by the one with the bird above the table. What a great catch!

doves can be seen in many places around the city, and people feeding them. Digital makes it easy, took some 10 to 20 frames to get one decent catch
