I wanted to buy a couple of "hand painted signs" and bring them back to Bangkok with me...but I wouldn't of been able to carry them around with me this trip....perhaps next time.....

Great photos Michael. I'm glad you took them in color. The folks here seem pretty much fine to have their photos taken, where photo sets of Bangkok often show people's heads turned away. Is the attitude towards photographers the same between the two countries?

Thanks for the compliment.........to answer your question, I guess I would say "no"......More importantly though, I think it depends on how you interact with your subjects (people).....everybody is different and reactions can vary.....I will say this, Bangkok (and Thailand in general) is a lot different than Myanmar.....despite the fact that they are neighbors, the people are a lot different....and traveling around Myanmar is worlds away from traveling around in Thailand......one of the main reasons that I like to go Myanmar is because of the people.....for me, it is a special place......

Hi Michael,
I currently live in Boston.
I go back to Myanmar every year--in fact, i just came back (3 weeks ago) from my annual 3 weeks trip. I was in Yangon and Bagan. As usual, it was an amazing trip. I went light this year--taking only my D-Lux 5. I really wanted to take film there, but the I have to go through so many x-rays/scanners I felt it would be easier just to take a digital camera.

Umm...it may be an ad for a movie. But, it says, "Robin Hood, Pyan Lar bi"--"Return of Robin Hood"; Also said, "50 years a ago, a bike well known around the world, England's Robin Hood bicycle." From the info, it seems like a bike ad, to me. But, then in Myanmar no one cares about copyrights, so anything and everything can be copied to be used for something else.

Thanks Soelin, I really enjoy traveling to your country and meeting the people....One of things that I enjoyed about reading the local papers (besides the propoganda) was the "Warning Copyright" ads that were warning local manufactures about copying products.....

Fantastic and inspiring images of a place I always wanted to visit. Got an insight guide to Burma roughly 20 years ago ( the book says Burma and not Myanmar ) and still haven't made it there. I worry that my visit would help the government more than the people.

I've been to Myanmar last December and saw some of the places you visited as well. However your pictures have a very high colour saturation, certainly higher as I (and my camera) remember. What film and post processing did you use? Is this on purpose?
