MyFunLeader Contax G 35mm F/2 to Leica M Conversion

Check out how similar G35 and G45 are:

How i wish zeiss would reissue a version of the G series lenses in native M mount. Im sure people would flock in droves for them

I got confirmation from funleader that the 45mm version comes out in March. Can’t wait to pick that one up as well

Since you have the lens now, how would you compare it to your Leica lenses. At more than half the price of a summicron asph, think its the way to go? How do you think it would perform on digital M?

So the 35/2 to be converted from Contax mount to M mount would cost (1) the 35/2 lens and then (2)$599 the conversion kit plus (3) time and effort to do the conversion yourself. The "total cost" is then around $1000. It still may be a better deal than buying some other brand 35mm 2 lens in M mount. It may be a better lens than (say) a ZM 35/2. Is it? I own a Contax G 45/2, and I like using it. It is a great lens.

This DIY kit looks like a promising way to keep those G lenses going and I'd be tempted to get one if I had a G lens sitting unused. It's quite expensive though! If you had to buy the 35mm G lens as a donor the price of the kit would be more expensive than a new ZM 35mm f2.8 which is a better lens than the G. But if you already have the glass and want that signature look from a Leica this might be the way to go.

I hope to see some people try the 45mm kit this year. I've owned all of the G lenses except the Hologon and the zoom, and that 45mm was a special lens.

I don't have the zoom or the 21 or 35. My initial investment in the G system was small. I have two G1 cameras with the 28-45-90 lenses. Then I added the 16/8 Hologon. It cost me $1500 in like new condition. Another $500 were needed for an expert conversion by DAG to M mount with 6 bit coding and making the adaptation 100% correctly.

Have heard all sorts of praise for the 45, not so much for the 35. The 21 also had great write-ups.

Also, wonder if "MyFunLeader" refers to Mao or Xi. Both real 'party' guys.

So it will be maybe a $599 conversion kit for the 45/2 lens. Right?

I would assume so.

On regards to your other question, I know it feels better and smaller than the zeiss biogon f2. I cannot comment on the look though. I’ll post results as soon as I develop this roll

Jim Buchanan converted a G 45/2 into M mount, and I bought this lens from someone else online. It is most likely my best normal lens in M mount. It is so good that I have no wish to buy a modern 50mm lens in M mount, but my will weakened when I saw the announcement for a CV 50/2 APO.

I just received the ULATA Adapter and I'm impressed! Appears to be very high quality, can't wait to give my G21, 28, 35, 45 and 90 a workout on my A7R iii.

Great to hear!

Very interested to see the photos!

Absolutely, my apologies, this Christmas time off I wanted to stay away from tech a bit, but I will post my review and samples by the end of this weekend. I took very detailed samples with FUNLEADER Contax G35 to Leica M Conversions, 7artisans 35/1.4 M and Voigtlander VM 40/1.2. All on tripod, all apertures and several different scenarios which include infinity and bokeh. After peeking at the results side by side at 100% I can say that the G 35/2 is already better than 7a 35/1.4 at all apertures and almost matching my VM 40/1.2 at f2 in the center. I quite love it. Anyway, will post my thoughts, side by side crops and all images soon.

Are there any guidelines on how to post reviews? Should I do it within the first post of this thread?

Yes in good ol' flickr

Yes, its form factor is great

Thanks for sharing all those, pretty cool!
It's interesting how yours has yellow meter markings and red aperture numbers, while mine are both white. We both have red feet markings.

I too am so tempted by the 50 VM APO.

I see you have a referral link going on. I'd be cool to say that every time somebody buy from that link you get a 10% back... according to this https://myfunleader.goaffpro.com/

I'm looking forward to your review! I don't have those lenses but borrowed this one for a week to do some extensive test.

Thanks for the reminder Daniel, I updated the first post with this info. The discount used to be 15%, now it seems to have dropped to 5%.

Really looking forward to your comparison with the Cron.

I added a review as a new thread: "FUNLEADER Contax G35 F2 to Leica M Conversion review". Please have a look and drop your thoughts and questions 🙂

(sorry, my first posts and review here so I am just figuring out the constraints of the forum)

I tried looking at your other thread but all the huge image files you put in it take too long to load. I gave up trying to look at your review.
