I've been considering an item in the classified section...and the entire post is now gone. Just curious, because I'm still relatively new here, is that a common and normal occurrence? It's sorta disturbing if one is mulling over an item and then the whole ad is gone. Can the original poster delete the thread? It'd be more satisfying to at least see that some other RFF'er bought the item. And what if there are responses to the original thread, can it be deleted? Inquiring minds want to know!

I deleted an ad once before because of inappropriate comments from two members (who were not successful in making a deal with me for the item). I think non-constructive comments in ad discussion threads should be prohibited. Keep in mind that the seller is *paying* for the ad.

Allowing a free-for-all discussion can also open up serious conflict-of-interest issues, although I think these will be fairly rare due to the relatively high level of integrity of the membership.

A couple things may have occurred. Each classified ad now has an expiration date, so it may just go away when that day comes. The seller may have sold the item, here or elsewhere and deleted it, or just changed his/her mind.

I would suggest sending the poster a PM to inquire if the item is still available.

May be a bit difficult to recall who that was when the post is gone I guess.

It would appear best to immediately indicate your interest with the seller..
