Women with bare breast? I'm shocked. Do they know their children watch porn on the internet? Television down there must be pretty boring.

''We just don't want violence, dead people or anything that could distress people. In that public domain area it's about entertainment and engagement.''
If that's true, the NSW goverment should probably ring-fence Kings Cross, so the tourists don't stumble across it.

God forbid anyone is offended.
Or worse yet, caused to actually think about something other than shopping, Facebook or blindly obeying the edicts of government officials.
Life is a full contact sport. The world is not chock full of puppies, flowers and sunshine. A photography exhibit should not be mandated to be, either. Particularly a documentary photo exhibit.
Sorry, but I have a real problem with censorship - particularly of documentary photography.
Censorship is half a step ahead of book burning IMHO.

The best camera is one that still works!
Hadn't seen this thread!
Yep ... far better to go home and watch an episode of 'Home and Away!'

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the irony of it being the NSW government.

What they are saying is that some photos are not appropriate for this particular venue. It's a public space and a community festival. Obviously the decision is woefully late, but the hue and cry of censorship seems unfounded. I don't see the big deal.

Most important "All the photos are being shown at other indoor exhibits."

..but intentionally offending people is not a smart habit either.

There is no freedom of speech in Australia
There is no freedom of speech in Australia
This is not what we've 'decided' in a legal sense, in Australia. There is no explicit right to freedom of speech in Australian law except political speech which is protected from criminal prosecution under common law as decided in Australian Capital Television Pty Ltd v Commonwealth.
So if you want to have this set in stone, campaign, or move.

There is no freedom of speech in Australia
because we decided quite a while ago that in civilized countries the government ought not be able to dictate what is and is not appropriate in regards to freedom of speech where it does not cross into threats or the maliciously untrue.

Attempts at censorship are intentionally offending - therefore they should cease and desist forthwith.

What a great teaching opportunity squandered for the parents.
Hopefully the adults use this censorship angle as a teaching moment instead.
Wait, is it just me or do others see nothing even approaching "distressing" in these images?
