Watch that step!
I`ve POSTED this here for all my LEICA friends all over the world
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!
What would any New Years Celebration be like without James the Butler and Miss Sophie?
"The Same Procedure as Last Year Miss Sophie?"
Dear Miss Sophie celebrates her 90th birthday and has sadly outlived some of her best friends, the last of which died over 25th years ago, but this does'nt stop her from her annual birthday party that's been organized by her brave butler James......
Quite perhaps the funniest thing that's ever been transmitted on German TV is'nt even in their language, but in ENGLISH!
This classic sketch that was performed by Freddie Frinton and May Warden in 1963 for German NDR TV has become one of the most requested and repeated TV shows in history, shown every year in Germany since 1972 and also in all German speaking countries of Austria and Switzerland, it also has a great following in Scandinavia, Australia and Japan
Just as America has it's "It's a Wonderful Life" this programe is the classic for ringing in the New Years in Germany
For myself this is tradition and in the 12 1/2 years I lived in Germany, it was a MUSTSEE every year which everyone in the room at any party stopped shortly before 8pm every December 31st and sat in front of the TV and laughed our a**es off!!!!!!!
This is very special for me and Millions of others and I hope that I can share this with everyone here at RFF and wish you and yours a Safe and Happy New Year
Don't mind the first minute or so of the introduction of the show in German, the rest of the show is in English - be patient, WARNING! you will laugh your pants off, it''s 18 mins of fun!
*THIS IS THE ORIGINAL UNCUT NDR TV PERFORMANCE FROM 1963*

Please be safe and have a designated driver - DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE!
Happy New Year - und eine glückliches neues Jahr!
Tom
PS: oHH I SURE that Miss Sophie was pretty good with a Leica back in the 1930`s LOL!!!!!!

Thanks Tom!
As an expat German, I haven't had a chance to watch it for years.
Happy New Year!

This is also a classic in Sweden for New Year's. Can't remember a year where we didn't watch it.

Didn't quite catch it at the end of 2007, but usually I come across it on Dutch or Belgian Television channels.
"The price of success is eternal repetition" works well for this sketch.

Happy New Year you guys

Meanwhile there are adopted (replayed and/or synchronised ) versions in some german dialects (Hessian i.e.). WDR had run yesterday the whole bunch of “Dinner for one” versions
But the 1963 version is still the best.
Happy New Year - und ein glückliches neues Jahr !
