Need a bag for my newly completed M system

This kind of statement just cracks me up!!! So if you really feel this way, why are you roaming around reading threads in a forum about bags?

This whole "bag" business is simply fetishism.

Seriously, do you people laboriously pack a bag full of all your stuff then march out to go "shooting"?

I pick up my camera, put a few things in my pocket or in whatever normal bag I carry, and go.

What is it with these expensive bags? What pushes the human buttons to slobber over bags and cases?

I have a Martin HD28. Bought new so it's really just a posers guitar. When traveling I just throw it in a pillow case and then in to the bed of my truck. I think it helps to give it a more authentic sound. By the way. how old are you,...15?

That's a very 'superior,' narrow-minded attitude.

Fetish? Some people need to carry more than fits in one's hand. What do you do? Stuff your film in your Dockers pockets? Travel half-way around the world and go out to shoot with one roll of film, in one body, with one lens?

Maybe you'd prefer everyone share your taste or lack thereof. The reasons why people might care about a bag might be the same reasons people might choose a Mercedes over a Dodge. Or Earnest Sewn over Wranglers. Or a Leica over a Canonet.

Blows my mind how someone who is supposed to be so interested in images and an aesthetic discipline can be so insensitive to other aesthetic matters. But, i guess that might explain why so many rangefinder dudes complain about all the buttons and gadgets on a modern electronic camera. Maybe a 'narrow focus' is all they can manage.

Whatever. Wanting a decent bag has nothing to do with packing a bag "full of all your stuff." Sometimes you need to take some or all of your stuff somewhere else. Sometimes people shoot stuff that isn't in their backyard. There's nothing fetishistic about wanting to do that with some regard to safety, efficiency, and elegance.

I'm with Michiel, except that I use the clone version. If you want to take all of the gear you list above the Domke F-2 is the ticket.

I went to the local University (OSU) Army Surplus Store, and bought a nice original Swiss-Army Medical Bag for $18. It's great for day-shooting, and I do carry it with me every day. I think the great thing about it is that nobody is going to know there is an expensive M camera inside.

Just got back to work after a few days of family life, my what a lot of replies!

I too sometimes carry just one camera and one lens with a roll of film or two in my pocket. But I still want a bag.

Having looked at the different bags being suggested I am mostly leaning towards the Hadley Pro from Billingham. The artisan & artist bags look really nice too but I could get to try the Billingham before buying.

Kulli, would you mind posting a picture or two of how your gear fits in the Hadley?

The Domke bags look all right but they are a bit nylon like.

Domke 803's and the larger 802's (if you need more stuff like clothes) are very good and easily broken in, The Billingham Hadley Pro lets you add side pockets and is more weatherproof but takes a while to "age".
For more discreet work i prefer the belt pouches offered by Newswear. i recently got a small black Hadley Digital which is neat, has the option to add side pockets and works well with the belt kit if i need to carry a bit more kit.

I took my camera to the leather guy and he made me a bag just so.

But there is the Billingham Leica bag and also the Billingham Alice bag if you do not have a friendly leather guy.

It's difficult for me, I don't live near a thriving leather community 😉

My local cobbler has a contact to a saddle maker, I have recently befriended him and am working on a belt "holster" for my Moskva-5. Which is covered in red leatherette so it should end up looking quite funky.

As for the Voigtlander set-up I am more or less convinced the Hadley pro is where it's at.

The Hadley Pro - is indeed a nice bag, I nearly got one for myself - but eventually came to the conclusion that I needed more room for everyday junk (clothes, phone, book, thermos, etc etc etc) ended up with a black billingham Packington....when worn in, it's a great no nonsense "city" bag.

I have two bodies, no I don't want any of the other things you mention I just want my two bodies, four lenses, stack of filters, a few cloths and maybe a cleaning swab or two and some film, lots of film.

I don't generally use my tripod with little rangefinder cameras but if I did, my tripod has a rifle sling on it.

Hmm I looked at them closer and they don't seem to come in a size that is truly practical for what I want to put in them, also the expense would be high as I would need to buy/make inserts to put inside.
