Hi,

I have a M6.
But I like the MP style advance lever a lot more.:p

Is it possible to change the M6 lever to an MP type?

I am in Hong Kong, anyone know where I can get Leica parts?
Could this be do-it-yourself at home job?

Cheers, Manfred

Lots have done it. I would do the reverse ;) if I had an MP I'd want the modern swinging arm film-advance lever on it. Way better... :D

Art, I replaced my M6 advance lever last year, and now I'm considering replacing the preview lever.

What's involved in removing/replacing the preview lever?

You need to replace both the lever and the screw, with the M2/3 parts. Not a problem and VERY easy to do.

You can get the advance lever from DAG for $50 but you will need a 5/8 inch (15.9mm) flexiclamp from micro-tools.com to remove the ring. If you try to use anything else to remove the ring you will damage it..

I made my own

I made my own

I used some scrap 3/32" aluminum stock an a couple of drill bits, and a Dremel tool. Fast and easy.
For the new/old style screw for the preview lever I just used two jewelers pointed tip screwdriver tips taped togrther, as I didn't have the two bladed spanner. Worked great.

Art, I'm sorry - I should have been more specific.

The M3 style screw can be loosened and tightened with a pin wrench, but what about removal of the original blind screw? Did you use a rubber grip, a flexi, or something else?

I'd like to avoid damage to the original screw if at all possible.

Thanks!

For that one I used a wide rubber band with thin hemostats.(a surgery instrument) I was going to make another flex clamp but I tried it with the hemostat and the rubber band, so I didn't bother.

OK, a roach clip and a rubber band - I'm in!

I assume you hold the lever stationary when you remove the screw? I seem to recall the lever is keyed.

Thanks!

Anyone have any more information? I am about to embark on the film advance lever replacement...
Any pictures of the procedure?

You have to do it right, with the right part, otherwise the M2/M3/M4 metal tip will touch the shutter dial.
