Need advice please.

Hello!

I'm having a strange phenomenon in one of my processed films.


The gear:

leica m2 - curtains replaced couple of years ago.
leitz summar 50\2 - immaculate example , just cla'd.

The story:
I shot 4 films in a week with the same setup as above.
1st film- fp4 ok
2 film- trix - all 36 frames with this extreme signs
3 film- trix - ok
4 film -pan 400 - ok

both trix was from the same batch I bought in a local store.
both trix were processed in the same tank .
I'm loading few frames for you to see. please remember all 36 frames are like this. some of what seems like leeks are on the space between frames.

Does anybody saw something like this before ? could it be a damaged film?

Seems to me you already have deduced an appropriate answer, mainly that the film is defective. Is there a physical crink in the film?

Possibly a light leak on the film canister? Was it completely dark when you opened it? Doesn’t look like any camera or development issue that I have ever seen.

No physical issues with the negative.

The film was opened in a dark bag.

About the leak on the canister, how could it happen without rolling the all film under extreme light evenly ?

From your facts I would bet on the camera door in the back not completely closed / sealed during this roll. The leaks are more intense in some frames; check if the strongest leaks are related to longer times between shots. All this assuming you did not use an eveready case.

A cartridge leak is unlikely, those usually happen near the edges and are not uniform along the roll.

It could be a weird issue when loading film into development reel or tank, or during development (unlikely if you got it in the whole roll).

My 2c for the detective game.

I would suggest sending an email to Kodak including the batch number and the images that you have shown here. If you have any more film from the same batch, developing an unexposed strip or roll might be one way to eliminate the camera as the source of your problem.

I had in the past leaks because the back door was not closed. the leaks are complitly different . still not a clue what happened here.

My guess would be the roll of film not the camera...if it happened to one roll only and other rolls shot before and after were good you might be able to eliminate that it's the camera...I would shoot a few more test rolls of anything BUT Tri-X and see what happens...

I have a hunch, but here's a question: Do the vertical lines get closer together on the frames later in the roll?

When assessing problems like this it greatly helps to show complete strips of negatives including rebate area (photographed against a diffuse light) rather than scans of individual frames.

Since it was only the one roll it's unlikely to be the camera.

The lines are very close together on some frames so unlikely to be from a defective light seal on the canister.
My bet is either the film is dodgy, or somehow it got some light on it on the way to the developing tank. A photo of the whole roll in order (like a contact sheet) would really help.

Radiation-damage?

Actually, after checking, I take that back, radiation is much less sharp and resemble wide bands, like here:

Looks and sounds like either production-error, or an issue with the camera/developing tank.

Appears as if the film was rolled (rotated) past the light leak at a more or less steady speed.

If this pattern is uniform and extends along the whole length of the film I would guess it happened during loading the film on the reel in your changing bag. If this happened in the camera the pattern would normally be irregular, depending on the ambient light and the time the film was sitting still.

Also collapsible lens (Summar) is a possible source of light leak which (though unlikely) could be limited to one roll if the roll was shot with the lens not fully locked in extended position.

I would suspect it is your shutter curtains. Perhaps you can remove the camera back, check the leading and trailing edges of the first and second curtains for tears.

yet I dont have a clear and definite understanding what went wrong.
the camera still seems intact so is the lens.
the negative is in the shop I bought the trix from and they are trying dealing with the local Kodak distributor .
I will share if something new arise.
