sunpak 383. Or the equivalent vivitar. Neither will be a problem.
But a used Vivitar that is made in Japan not made in China will have a dangerously high voltage, watch out for those!

I was - it is gasthering dust in some drawer....🙁
I use a cheap "Achiever" brand flash (for film so never on cam), with cheap chinese wireless triggers... so basically it's strobist style 🙂 cost of the whole rig is about $40...
I bought a Brand New Metz 20 C-2 flash this afternoon for $41, so waiting for it in the mail and as soon as I can, I'll post samples taken with it. 😀

Just hold the terminals and test-fire it. If it does not kick you severely, you are most probably fine.
I sometimes need flash and usually carry one with me when on assignment, just in case. I find the most versatile are manual/auto non-dedicated flashes.

Metz 20 C-2. My favourite flash. It's small and light and can bounce in a pinch. I usually end up using it straight on. $50 at B&H.

Is there a reason/explanation why the Leica Flashes are so expensive?
I like the secondary flash on the 58, but at 600 euro's?
And the SF20 can be found for a much kinder price, but is not compatible with a M8 TTL.
