Need Contax III REPAIR

I have a Contax III that has a broken cog in the shutter mech. The Camera is a Post-War model. I live in the USA. I would like to find a good repair shop to fix it and do a CLA on the Camera and lens. (50/2 Collapsable Sonnar). I will need the meter cell Replaced and readj. too.

If I have to send it overseas, Ok,

Who Can I send it to ??

and what kind of expence can I expect ?? ball park

It depends. Do you want to see your Contax again before you grow old and die? If so, you should contact someone other than Henry. His list is longer than the line of traffic going through the Holland Tunnel at rush hour.

You might want to check out KEH, Midwest Camera or Essex.

Are you sure your camera is a III, or is it a IIIa? There were very few postwar model III cameras.

Mechanically speaking, the III and IIIa are different cameras and share no parts -- not even a single screw, as far as I know.

Henry does outstanding work, probably no one better. I have had him overhaul or repair several Contax cameras and lenses. Unfortunately, his waiting list is currently 96 people, which means a wait of 2 years or longer (no, I am not kidding). Search the threads, I remember a discussion several months ago on Contax RF repair.

Yes, a IIIa ?? will recieve on Thrs. the 16th of Nov. according to Tracking Info it arrived in my City Post Office last night).

IIIa has a RED Colored Dial. The III has a BLACK.

You might also contact Ken Ruth of Photography on Bald Mountain. I had Ken overhaul and replace ribbons on a Contax II. He appears to have done a good job- the camera exposes Velvia 50 just fine.

Agree with ZeissFan- a post-war Contax III would be a rare beast. I have one that was made for the 1956 Photokina, according to Henry Scherer.

Contax IIIa was made as a black dial first and then a red dial. Black dial uses a specialized flash cord and the red dial has a standard pc for flash.

Here is where I had my IIIa black dial overhauled for $120 with shipping included. The turn around time was about 10 days.
