Need Feedback

Ok, here's another suggestion (as if you don't already have enough on your plate!) -- make this RSS friendly. That would make it easier to sort through the active threads.

i like the look and feel of the dev site as it is. The only suggestion would be maybe make the background color a little more true gray rather than the bluish gray (although this could be my monitor).

The test site's "darkish grey" comes out for me as a sickly dark greenish grey. How about making the new forum look and act as nearly as possible like the current one?

I do agree a longer list of recent posts would be nice... or as in the short-lived new forum where there were pages of the most recent posts in chrono order. I liked that, so as not to miss some.

Also, clustering the avatar and other member info together at left makes sense from a space utilization standpoint, and making it easier to read.

The font can be made larger. No issues.

The member info has been moved to the left now on the dev site. lets see if this is any better.

Jorge,

1) For me the font could still be a little larger.
2) I'm still not finding a 'view new posts' button.
3) Could you make it so that links in posts automattically stand out (ex. underlined). Now you can only find them when the mouse arrow goes over them.
4) It would be nice to have a quick reply box at the bottom of the page.

I like the small pop-up with the first words form a post when you place the mouse over a thread title.

Agree as for the quick reply box, you know how much we like to write all our nonsense stuff :p

Font made bigger. you can always go to your web browser and click on view and from ther increase your text size.

quick reply is on now..

thinking of a color for the link ...

Jorge,

Looking better every time. I like the font now; with this size and ruler length the site is very easy to read. Thanks for all the work.

Wim

1) Could the default home page be a (long) list of the active threads instead of a list of the forums? Or allow the user to configure their own default?

2) Could you make the gray colors the same as the current site? i.e. alternating mediun & dark gray. The gray on the dev site has a bluish component. :(

3) Could links be underlined instead of bold, as in the current forum - much more salient to the user.

4) Really like the panel layout of the individual pages - it's more like the current forum. Very wide displays of text are not as readable as narrow colums of 9-10 words - that's why newspapers/magazines are laid out in columnar format - it aids readability.

5) Thanks for recreating the Quick Reply edit box. Can you make the typing area of all boxes have a white background?

Site seems to have hung so that's all for now.

Thanks for all the hard work, Jorge! :)

Not coompletely finished yet. But things are looking good. I will arrange the front page to have more needed info when done. But I think the forum side is pretty much a done deal with the exception of the additional buttons for gallery, home nd new posts.

I second the RSS request! That would be neat, I even wrote a program to pop up new messages on slashdot for RSS, I could tweak it for here.

And I could also post said program here/somewhere for us o download, though I assume there are programs out there that do this for you now that are probably better than what I've got.

There's a good summary of what RSS is here: http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/live-bookmarks.html

If you have an RSS client (FireFox browser has it built in), you'll get a list of links for "what's new".

If Jorge did RSS here, it could have links to (for example) all of the new threads in the last eight hours. Or, links to forums with new threads. Or both. Or something different.

Jorge: If you did RSS, you'd have to make sure that overzealous RSS clients weren't nailing you on the bandwidth. Firefox only updates its Live Bookmarks when the user requests them, but some clients check on a user-configured basis, which is often set WAY too high. Something like once every 30-60 mintues is reasonable. Once every 5 minutes could be devastating. If half of the users here (about 500), plus others who aren't members, made an HTTP request to your site for the RSS feed every 300 seconds, that'd add a lot of extra bandwidth. And, you'd have to deal with banning IP addresses until the user fixed the problem, etc.

As soon as I finalize the home page colors, I think the transition will start. Obviously, I need to remove and add the appropriate content to the home page as well.
