I have been looking on this forum, ebay, keh for a used X100. I just saw that my local camera store carries a used X100 for 595 with a 30 day warranty. They also offer a year warranty for about $50. I would buy that right now, but the sn starts with 14 which from my research means it may experience the SAB issue. Any suggestions on what route to take for a reliable X100 without sab issue?

If I were to buy a used X100 at this point, I would either get a good warranty along with it or I would find some way of assuring myself it would not get SAB (for example, if I knew that the camera had gone to Fuji already to have the lens assembly replaced). Some people may argue that the SAB issue was overblown and maybe it is. But I had it on two different units (the first one I bought and on a replacement one) so it was a very real issue for me :)

Does Fujifilm support keep a list of X100's (S/N) that had lens replacements due to SAB ?

Does the seller have a slip from Fujifilm that shows that particular camera has been fixed ?

I bought my used X100 from a guy here on RFF and I trusted him enough when he simply told me that camera had been fixed.

IMO all x100's that are alive and shooting have not been effected by the SAB or if that did they probably had the SAB resolved. in reality I hear that a small % actually were effected although the press was huge on the issue- I also bought mine used but from a camera store- 16 months ago. I am a fan of the x100 sensor and the 2.0 firmware impact on manual focus was a vast improvement-AF was improved but never a big deal to me. good luck-Daniel

Your best bet is to look for a black X100. As far as I know, no SAB issues reported on that.

My first (silver) X100 had SAB and was replaced for free by Fuji. Then I bought a black one and haven't seen any issues.

Thanks for all the advice, I am thinking about buying the camera at the local shop and purchasing the year warranty, I would hope a whole year would give enough time for the SAB issue to happen if it hasn't already. At the same time I am unaware of whether or not constant usage would trigger it.

Adorama just shipped my order of used x100 with 2 year ext warrant! x100s and xe-2 are the best things happened this year since the last photo trip.

750 for E+ and another 60 for 2 years.
you could get a new one for 900 - from some web offerings. since i've had good buying returning selling experience with adorama, i wend for a used instead of new. good luck with hunting.

Sounds good, but sadly it isn't true. My X100 developed SAB recently, right after I upgraded the firmware. I'm expecting it back from Fuji Europe tomorrow and it has been fixed free of charge. Other cases have been reported in recent weeks.

To the OP, are you sure s/n 14xxxxx is affected? I seem to remember that 12 and 13 series are having problems and that 11 and 14 are fine. Better re-check the forums for confirmation.
A good X100 with the current firmware magic is a wonderful camera.

I got mine from a store, which offered a temporary warranty (it must have expired by now), long enough to make sure the camera didn't have any funny issues.

Where is the SN in this body? Is it the one in the battery-card compartment lid? Thanks!

I had mine for 2+ years before SAB showed up.

I believe that you're correct in that only 12x and 13x serial numbers are affected. Whether or not it can be taken for granted - with absolute certainty - that 11x and 14x serial numbers are immune from SAB, is perhaps another matter. I don't recall hearing of any instances with these, but I suppose time will tell.

This, on the other hand, is definitely correct! ;):)

For the record, I had one of the first X100 cameras to hit the US when it came out. I used it for 2 years before selling it on (for the X100s) and never had the SAB issue.

This SAB issue and the future release of the X200 makes me wonder if I should wait for the X100s to stagger more in price instead. I think I will just wait and see, for the time being I am really enjoying the used GF1 and 14mm pancake I recently purchased, like a poor mans Ricoh GR.

Ive been having similiar concerns as the OP, really want an X100 butcant swallow the possibility of being stuck with the SAB issue if I buy used.

I have also yet to see a claim of any black X100's having the SAB issue, but ide take that with a grain of salt.

My best plan of action, and my best advice, through hours of scavaging Google and Fuji gear forums, is simply buy NEW from a reputable dealer!

For once in my existance, I'm buying new.
can anyone reccomend a good shop (online) that still has the black x100 in stock?

Good luck on your hunt and update us on how it goes.

I would imagine buying a X100 used and even paying for the SAB issue repair would be cheaper than new by a few hundred.

Unfortunately not, I've seenSAB repair prices from 500-750$.
The used.price for a x100 is still around 600$

Can I trust a 3rd party warranty to cover against SAB on a used.camera?
