FYI-In addition to my comments above, my x100 is a 13xxxx serial number and again its been flawless (hope I didn't jinx myself)….. if the 30 day helps your peace of mind then I would do it-maybe they would upgrade it to the 2.0 firmware before you take it….- good luck D.

Bought a new X100 from a photo shop over 2 months ago for 600€ with full warranty. It's a 13xxxx and it developed SAB after 1000 shots. It's presently under the knife at Fuji France. Hope to get it back asap. I knew I was taking risks, but I got my back covered.

Unfortunately not, I've seenSAB repair prices from 500-750$.
The used.price for a x100 is still around 600$
Can I trust a 3rd party warranty to cover against SAB on a used.camera?
I just had mine repaired in Nov 2013. Fuji said that for any x100 out of warranty or even gray market, the cost is $149. They only charge for labor and not for the lens assembly. The prices that are around the internet of $700-800 are from the brief period where fuji tried to charge for the piece and the labor, but that isn't the case anymore. Too much bad PR, according to the rep I spoke with.

For a known issue?

That's a good point. There are reports on dpreview of Fujifilm continuing to repair the SAB issue for out-of-warranty X100s. How accurate the reports are and how long Fujifilm will continue to do this, I am not sure.

Sub-200$ repair, now that puts me at ease!
Glad Fuji stepped up to the plate on this one.
I will admit, some of my research is out of date.
But I still think I'm going to buy new, I found a shop with a X100 LE for a very fair price new in box.

I have just received my X100 after SAB repair (s/n 12xxxxx). Fuji Germany did everything free of charge, months out of warranty, no questions asked. They swapped the complete lens assembly.
Absolutely terrific service, I couldn't be happier.

That's what I figured... it's a known issue. I feel bad for whoever paid $500-700 for that repair.

My s/n 13xxxx X100 is back after free extensive surgery to cure its sticky blades. Hope it won't suffer a relapse! Great to be able to use it again.

Odds are you will never have an issue. But, we all know low probability events do occur (they just happen to be rare).

I recently had to have the repair done on mine; it came to $170 with shipping. Not bad for a new lens and shutter, but maybe more than it should have been for a known defect . . . Nice to have it back, though.
I wish they'd come out with an X-Pro with upgraded EVF. I really missed the optical finder when my X100 was out of commission, and would like to keep the OVF option with the current resolution/frame rate level of EVF for wides, teles, etc.

Do the black x100 suffer from SAB

I'm curious as to whether or not the X100s line is immune from SAB?
