Recently bought 2 Leitz screw-mount lenses and would appreciate if anyone can point me to an on-line source where I can look up their date of manufacture by serial number. The lenses are:
Summar 50/2, s/n 285065
Elmar 50/3.5 Red Scale, s/n (1?)427469 [it half-way looks like the s/n might be preceded by a 1, but not certain because the numbers are so tiny]
Thanks in advance.

As a sensible answer has already been given I will just say that, at first, I wondered about the romantic possibilities of the two old ladies . . .

Whoa, that was quick. Thank you sir!
For the Elmar, I was able to find elsewhere that the production period was from 1931 to 1959. Does anyone know if the Red Scale version was made during the whole production period or only after a certain year? This will help me narrow down which of the 2 years given above ('38 or '56) by photobizzz is the correct one. Thanks.

Well-known
It would have to be 1956, as the red scale didn't come along until the early 50's.

Rimshot: a percussionist's technique of laying one stick on both the rim and drumhead, then striking that stick with the other. Most commonly used in vaudville to punctuate a comedians one-liner.
