Dad converted the garage years ago. In addition to a large main room it has a small kitchen and restroom divided by a common wall. I plan to use the kitchen for my darkroom. Already have ventilation due to the stove hood installed (I will place developing and fixing trays in this this vicinity. Will place enlarger at other side of room.
Here's Issue #1:
The room has one sliding window which will need light proofing. I'm looking for some method of lightproofing which I can remove at will in order to open the window and air out the room on a regular basis. I was thinking aluminum foil as a front layer backed w/ some thick black paper taped over the entire window. Sound feasible?
Issue #2:
The room has no door. Only a doorway leading from main room. Short of having a $$$ custom built light tight door....what way to acheive this? Light tight curtains of some type? Any ideas?
Issue# 3:
The whole structure gets pretty dusty. Wondering how to cut back on dust in the room.
Any ideas you all could offer would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Just install a regular wooden door in the doorway and add weather stipping for light tightness. A towel or mat allong the bottom seals that strip. For the window, use 1/4" plywood or thick cardboard. Hold it in place with velcro or spin type fasteners. Make it light tight with a U-channel or with foam weather stripping. Where's the dust coming from? If there's a concrete floor, paint it to seal it. Good luck!

An alternative for the window would be to use a couple of layers of heavy black fabric sewn together and secure with Velcro. Easy to use and store.
