Need series filters?

Need series filters? It may be possible to make your own. I had read on another site that regular filters of similar size could be sustituted for a series filter. Needing some series VII filters, I found that a 49mm filter will fit but was a tad too thick. Took the thickness down on some flat wet/dry sandpaper, a bit at a time till the correct thickness was reached. I was lucky enough to have a series VII filter as a guide, and the adapted filter appears to work. The bright ring of polished aluminum left by the sanding was blacked with a felt marked, but model paint could also be used I suppose. I am guessing other sized series filters could be made this way also. Now to find a 49mm ND filter to modify.

I have some series V and VI stuff for cheap if anyone is looking for some. Shoot me a note and I will see what I have.

How about a #11 yellow/green in both V and VI? Regards, Dave

Usually at camera shows or swap meets, the vendors have shoe boxes full of second hand filters and beat-up lens hoods for 50 cents or a dollar each (on ocassion, you can take the entire box for ten dollars).

The nearest camera show/swap meet to me is likely a 4 to 8 hour drive away so they are out when looking for cheap filters and I do not do Eboy either. Not everyone lives in populated areas so homebrew has to do as an alternative/stopgap solution in that situation.
