I like the look, but it's certainly clear why digital has taken over low-light shooting.

Its because Joe the photographer likes to photograph low light without any respect for "low light". The shots above indicate the mood of low light and they're elegant and mysterious.

You can shoot the same scene at ISO 6400 with a D3 and it will look like just another normal shot at available light.

Photography is about aesthetics, not utility.

i completely agree with you on this one!

Wow #6 is my favorite. Perfect composition. I just bought a Canon QL17 GIII whose top ISO is 800. How do you think Neopan 1600 would look set at 800? Or would I be better just getting Neopan 400 and pushing it to 800? I love the look you guys are getting from this film but are similar results possible with the Canon or would I just be chasing something that is beyond the technical capabilities of the QL17?

Nick- I love the technical look of your second shot (close-up of guy's face looking up off camera left). It shows a great marriage of film, lens, exposure, and development to create a look I like. This combo of tonality, grain, contrast, and sharpness, pushes all my buttons.

This is fantastic- I love how the guy in the foreground stands out from the rest of the image. Just a great, evocative, shot.

@ drewbarb: Thank you a lot ! 🙂 I was shot from the hip, so focus is a little of (35mm Summicron IV @ f/2.0).

@ deepwhite: Very nice series !! I like the last one (cross walk) best. Great tones and I love that grain !!

I don't know if Super-Prodol (Fuji's developer for high Presto and Superpresto) is available outside of Japan but I really like it for both, 400PR and 1600PR.

Cheers,

Gabor

Love the stuff. I used it for my second daughtes birth together with Ilford 3200. I found the Ilford too grainy but the Neopan wonderfull. Here is a shot of my oldest.

All very nice looking stuff...some just great.

How does it compare to tri-x pushed to 1250 iso (my usual low light fare).

How would you rate it for development in Diafine?
