Nepal photos...

A few months ago, I purchased a D700 only to return it mainly because of its size. Then the M9 came out... but after examining my financial situation and obligations for the next few years, I will not be able to put one in my Domke....
so...
...decided to start anew & sell the M8 to purchase the D700 again....

Had a chance recently to go to Nepal with the N!kon in tow...

Here are some photos.

I'll rejoin the RF party when a FF RF costs <$2500.... not for the foreseeable future I know...😛
BTW, this forum is bar none the best I've ever been in.

Very nice pics.They prompted me to go back and look at my fathers photographs taken in India ,Burma and Nepal during the 1940`s. Mostly people and places but one or two action shots.Here are two he he took in Nepal.

photogdave: I'm actually contemplating selling my Coolscan V due to lack of use. I don't think I'll be considering film again just because of the time it requires to process then scan.... though it would be nice to get another M6 again.

Michael: Thanks for sharing the photos... I'd love to venture into India and record images in the future.

Vic: Yes I could have taken the photos with an M8...
I sold the 8 for two reasons:
1) I wanted something I can shoot with abandon at higher ISOs (3200 +up). Add to this a spectacular AF & metering system and selling it became an easier thing to do.
2) I wanted a 24mm or 35mm focal length to be just that...24 & 35. This of course required a full frame sensor. From my personal experience after shooting with a 35mm focal length almost solely for over 5 years, a 28mm f2 on a 1.33 crop sensor is just not the same (though the FOV is somewhat similar). The M9 is out of reach for me financially and cannot, in good conscience considering my financial obligations, purchase one. It was almost a straight trade for the Nikon when I sold the M8 (and I already have some Nikkor primes: 24, 35, 50 & 105).

Fantastic images! I love them! I am currently using my 5DmkII with the 50mm 1.8 as my walk around and am really liking it. Are you shooting in RAW and then converting? I have taken to customizing the settings in my B&W jpegs in the camera so that they pretty much look the way I want them when they come out. Again, great images!

Great shots. I think you'll find that the D700 will allow much more spontaneous shots due to it's high operational speed (I'm not just talking about frame rates).

Did you use Nik SilverEfex for your B&W conversion? I use it on my D700 b&w and I think it looks good.

pachuco: Raw then LR - Silver Efex - PS.... I just like the "security" of a digital negative (RAW). Thanks for the kind comments.

David: The D700 is a joy to use. I left it on Matrix metering just dialing in compensation as necessary and it was very quick to use. AF was faster than what I could ever do manually (without scale focusing) and the blackout is so quick that it *almost* provides you with an unobstructed view through the VF.
