My wife and I are going to a party tomorrow, the first time we've been out in a year and a half. (We're hermits
) I'm taking my XA with some Portra 400 in it and a couple of rolls of Tri-X for when the Portra runs out. I'll also have my NEX-5N and 16mm for when it gets dark.

I took my Bessa R out with me for years. No problems. Nowadays I take an Olympus E-PL2 with a Panasonic 20mm.
The phone camera you may already have might be the best choice for this social activity. Surprised to suggest this as I never have (intentionally) used my phone's camera...

I use a Nikon Lite Touch, very compact and great 28/3.5 lens
I am also very fond of the Ricoh GRD III - I like the manual flash option as it avoids the harsh look that you get when using auto flash.

I used to take my Hasselblad 500CM but I made people stop a lot. Then a Mamiya 6 which was perfect and now I take my Leica M2 everywhere. I'd say take a rangefinder.

Bring the Spotmatic, because you can use it as a weapon if the night turns ugly.
