I never had a problem with the Leica hood coming off of the Lux ASPH, but as several people have mentioned, you need to push in the clips on the side and then lock it by turning the collar.
My problem with the square hood was that I felt it was rather big.
I ended up replacing it with a round, metal Contax GG-2 hood, into which I sawed a vent for a clear view through the viewfinder. This setup will also work on the pre-ASPH 50 Lux.
The Contax hood appears to be identical to the one that heavystar sells on ebay.
