All, has anyone received or has any word on the status of the new Summilux 35. I am the first one on the list at my local vendor and so far nothing! Love to get everyones status. Please advise.

I got flamed on the Leica Customer Forum for saying this, but apparently, and I have heard this from various sources, one of them being a Leica rep, that manufacturing encountered some issues and units sent to the states were sent back.

Thats all I know. I've heard many are using theirs successfully, and a couple have encountered backfocusing issues so maybe waiting is a good thing, for now.

Looking at your kit list, it doesn't look as if you're in a 'desperate need' for some fancy glass ;)

you should hold us over with some pictures taken with all those lenses.

Why are you upgrading? did you notice real world problems with the 35 asph lux? care to share examples?

My understanding is that the new lux will also premier at Photokina this month..

Yeah, unless you're having focus issues, I see no reason to upgrade. So far samples of the new lens doesn't look like any obvious improvement over your current lens....but hey if you have the $$$, why not.

Leicashot, all older 35 lux have back focus issues, unless you believe that the laws of physics cease to exist in some lenses. But, thanks for the inside information on the new 35 lux.

Yes I am aware that the previous version had back focus issues, which is the whole reasons why Leica has updated it. Apparently there are people who claim they have copies of the Lux ASPh that DO NOT back focus, especially those using brass chrome and titanium versions. I'm not sure what you're getting at, cause my whole point on the Leica forum was to point out that the only fast 35 to not suffer from this is the Nokton 35/1.2. Also, I haven't seen any reports of back focus on the original ASPHERICAL Lux.

leicashot, all of the ASPH lenses, no mater what housing, use the some optic design. They all back focus the same. I wouldn't go on what "some people" claim. I suspect the ASPHERICAL also back focuses to some degree. It has a different element design. So, it probably has different performance than the ASPH... I'd love to try one.

Cheers
