So I've been told that the Fuji X100 is to thank for a flush of 40mm accessories now available. Hoods and UV filters are among the items I found at Amazon, and I'm sure these can be found elsewhere too.

I'm curious if anyone has bought any of these things to use on the Canon 50mm f/1.8 Serenar (40mm filter threads) and what your experience has been? In particular, I'm interested in folks' experience with hoods. I think the brand I was considering is Marumi (but I could be remembering wrong). I also saw a hood with integrated filter holder. Anyone have one of those?

Opinions? Experiences? Raves? Rants? I'd like to hear.

Perhaps I got my 50/1.8 a little before accessories for the X100 became widespread (assuming they are; I don't own an X100), but I found it hard to find any and opted instead for a step-up ring to 49mm. There are lots of hoods and filters for 49mm.

I have the step rings for my 50. Works, but I'm curious how people like the "native" 40mm stuff. That is, *if* anyone out there has bothered to try it (and I can't imagine why not).

There are a number of new hoods available that are native 40mm and look to be nice. I'm interested in making my 50/1.8 lens package a bit more compact and streamlined/elegant. My current setup of 40-40.5mm step ring, 40.5 UV filter, and 40.5 hood is large and unwieldy. I've noticed that some of the new 40mm hoods are 2-part systems that mount filters in between, sort of like the Kodak Series VI system. I don't remember what size/kind of filters they use, but I think standard 49mm screw type. Regardless, even with the filter installed in the hood, it doesn't increase the size or bulkiness of the hood assembly.

I'm very tempted to get one of these, but thought I'd see if someone here has tried one already. If you hate it, tell me and share why you hate it. Conversely, if you love it, .... One thing I've heard tangentially is the 40mm threads are not truly 40mm, but actually 39.7mm or something like that. This might affect how one of these hood fit on a Canon 50/1.8.

Thanks!

I thought it was the x10 that used 40mm, the 35mm f2 (for sale in the classifieds) I have I've just bought a adapter ring to convert to 43mm but it would be nice to have a 40mm filter to keep the lens as small as possible.
