This was was an eBay purchase and a rare impulse buy for me, though I've wanted a Canon LTM body and the 50/1.8 for a while. My father owned a few different Canon rangefinders when I was a kid and they still bring back nice memories.

I seldom spend anything like $200 on eBay, I'm usually more of a cheapskate bottomfeeder. But in this case the camera and lens together were about the price of the lens or body alone, and I figured if either was in good shape then I'd be doing ok even factoring in a CLA.

The camera turned out to be in perfect working order, though clearly well used. Unfortunately the lens had a haze of oil on one of the internal elements. I was a little annoyed by that, but I found some helpful disassembly instructions here on RFF and had it cleaned up and back together that same day. This place is awesome 🙂

Here are a few miscellenous shots from the first two rolls:

I'm quite pleased with both the lens and the camera. The three-magnification finder is great for 35mm lenses. The triggerwinder is smooth and quiet, and as a left-eye shooter it's nice to be able to advance film without shifting the camera. I'm also looking foward to using this lens on my M3 and FSU bodies, as my other 50mm RF lenses are a 2.8 Industar and a 3.5 Elmar-M, both a bit slower than I like for low light work.

I too have long liked the Vt; I borrowed one for a time while I was working in a camera shop years ago, and recall using it with pleasure. Big solid camera, and the bottom trigger wind suited me well. It's one that I might buy now if only for sentimental reasons. 🙂

Sounds like you got a great deal, and I hope it gives you a lot of satisfying pics.

i enjoy my vt but wow yours looks incredible. i'd say it was a great find and it is obviously working well. the trigger is cool, hey?! as is the finder/magnifier
