Large scale shutterless CMOS like devices will be available sooner or later i.e big ass sensor point n' shoots in a rangefinderlike body.

the discussion above about the definition of a digital rangefinder camera (which I didn't join in at the time) is like the current discussion about 'what is a planet?' - it's all a matter of making up an arbitrary definition we can agree to.
So, in all humility, I'll offer a definition, please feel free to pull it apart!
A digital rangefinder is a digital camera that is not a DSLR and has a 4/3 sensor or larger (ie crop factor <= 2).
