Where is all the Contax talk?

Are all Contax cameras waiting for Henry to do his magic?

Well I got myself a Contax IIa with a 50/2 Sonnar (just cannot resist those Sonnars......:bang: ) for a very very fair price.
It has two issues (focusing wheel, hazy finder) but is emminently usable.
Shutter is dead on :D
Well I always liked the IIa, and IMHO it is a better user than the IIIa, which is more like a piece of art.
Now I am #86 on the waiting list, but my camera will be used until the very last minute.

Ciao

Congratulations Joerg, but you are seriously straying from the path of righteousness! ;)

Unfortunately not
There is a 35 Summicron ASPH on its way.........

Oh the fun of choosing.......how to ruin film :bang:

Ciao

Number 16 here.

Congratulations, I can't wait for mine, I haven't seen it yet. Compact, well built, classic glass, older pedigree than the M Leicas. A collectors item to be used and enjoyed.

well, the vf can be cleaned rather easily, and the focusing wheel is not absolutely necessary. I almost never use it, unless i have LOTS of time focusing and i want to focus wide open on a closeby something REALLY accurately. Even then.

Advice: get a lens hood. You can get a cheap vented one from ebay.

Henry Scherer is a Contax RF restorer. His waiting list is about 1 year long, he charges more than others who do CLA's, but according to his website, he completely dismantles each camera, cleans the parts, and reassembles them checking tolerances along the way. Kind of like a full body off restoration on a car. A complete rebuild. Some folks choose to pay extra/premium for this work, as I did.

I rarely use the fccusing wheel too, but ist makes funny noises.
The beauty about it is that i can use the camera until I am the #1 or so on the waiting list.

And i agree with rover that it is nice to have both Contax and Leica's.

The Contax IIa is a fine looking camera, Joerg! Congratulations... I have mixed feelings about the meter bulge on my IIIa; at least the meter has a new cell and is working. Just had a CLA from CameraCare including the 1.5 Sonnar, so here's a first sample...

Now that Frank is out of our way things should go fast. Who is next among us, anyone before Brett?

Henry should hire an apprentice - that person could do the less critical work while gathering skills need to complete an complete overhaul. After all, who will service the next generation of Contax whackos?

Robert, I don't have my Contaxes back yet - very soon though. I sent Henry a IIa colour dial and a IIa black dial. Here's a pic of one of them before I sent it out:

Nice! Where did you start on the list? And how long did it take?
