ok, here's a quick shot driving home from the grocery store - the first is unedited, the second with 15mm focal length set in epson raw.

yes, exactly.

I had the older LTM and now the M mount. The older one is more compact and discreet but the new one can take filters which is a big plus. Both are gems.

Were you sick of it, or do you have an M8 and need the filter ring...?

Absolutely not sick of it - love the focal length, and I don't have an M8. I'm a B&W film shooter and I use filters, and this thing takes 52mm filters which is a standard Nikon size.

I've heard the new one is better built.

Its so funny, here in Germany you could buy the old Lens for 399.- euro and the new one for 439.- euro by the same dealer, but if you must buy a m39 to M Mount Adapter for the old one, you pay over 450.- euro for lens and adapter, more than the new one .. hahaha
i think the old once is very good, but now it must be cheaper, right ?

The "old" lens included a 15mm viewfinder in the package, the new one does not. Big difference.

@ peter_n : sorry Peter , your right, but the difference is not really high.

I think peter_n is right, price wise it is quite a big difference, and the finder alone is hard to find
albeit I have one for sale

I think that Cameraquest sells the VF for $128, and to me that's a fair amount of money.
The new lens is now being sold on eBay by Photo Village. Unfortunately that dealer doesn't take PayPal so you can't use Microsoft Cashback...

If the optical quality hasn't changed, it's a lens to love. (I understand the M-mount 28mm f/2 doesn't perform as well as the LTM f/1.9, though I haven't tried the M-version myself, it's just hearsay, and I tend to put very little trust, if any, in online lens reviews). What I like best about the original version is how tiny it is, considering I rarely use it. I added permanent 39mm filter threads by epoxying an empty brass filter rim (minus the male threads which I ground off) inboard of the hood fins. I'm not sure how much of a noticeable benefit rangefinder coupling would be for me, as I tend mostly to hyperfocal even my 21mm lenses that do couple (biasing the set point if the main subject falls much closer or farther from the hyperfocal distance). If and when I spy a used one I might give it a try.
