The talk is that Epson is considering a new beefed up RD-2, given the strength with which its RD-1(s) is reselling.

At half the cost of the M8 might be worth considering --

Anybody got more info?

until you name reliable sources this is only a rumour to me, and i do not believe one word.

I'm with Sebastel. This is the second most irritating sort of thread. Are you really that bored?

The R-D1 was a vanity project pushed through by one of Epson's engineers. It was not a success, and they got their head handed to them because of QC problems, replacements for bad units, and low sales.

The sales were invisible to a huge company like Epson.

I think it's 100% certain they will not go back for a second adventure in digital rangefinders.

If anybody anytime would present a second digital rangefinder beside Leica I can´t imagine that it would be epson.
I think its a summer-rumour, too.

Regards, Axel

its a pity people submit themselfs to rummors like this with no proof or meat to back it up. As much as I wished something would happen I dont believe a word of it.

Ha. No way in hell epson is going to crank out an RD-2. If anything it's more likely that Nikon will probably team up with Cossina or something for an "RD-2" that will likely be somewhere around $3k. A lot more than your typical DSLR. But still way below the only competition, the M8 at $5,500. I would probably sell the M8 and grab something like that if it came around. Provided it had a full frame sensor. Or at least another 1.3 crop with good high ISO performance.

But in the end, all of this is wishful thinking.

We'll see a R-D2 when...

I agree its the THIRD most annoying thing out there...the second is people replying to it saying how irritating it is...:D

You know what the context is by the post subject! pass over or reply with something creative and funny. Stop Bitching about it though he he!

The thing is i think most of us want an option to the M8 and a R-D2 would be great.
35mmdelux don't let the responses get you down. But it is true we have all heard WILD rumors of the R-D2 but there isn't really a good business case for Epson to stay in the Rangefinder business, unless they think it is really going to sell more printers. Its not going to sell more printers.

Do you have any credible sources?

James

*sigh*

That's my point. There's nothing in the title to indicate that this is a total, complete and utter waste of time. Threads like this should be labelled "Hoax" in the subject line.

Bill

Judging from the tone and tenor of this thread I guess it would be a bad time to talk about the new Epson R-D3 I recently heard about.

what a bunch of negative nellys!

the guy ASKED if there was more info about what he heard.

annoying is when folks don't read the actual words in a post.

You know, guys, all this talk about a new digital rangefinder for us street shooters may not be required at all. My vision has deteriorated to where I just can't reliably manual focus any longer so I must go AF.

I just picked up the new Olympus E-420 with the 25 2.8 pancake and I'm very happy with it so far. It's smaller and much cheaper than the RD-1 and my M5 and seems toget the job done very well. If this continues you will shortly see those and a bunch of lenses for sale. Now if someone would build a lens in the 14 to 18 millimeter range I'd be a very happy camper.

Aside to Joe: I found a CLE body cap new in the box. If you want it, PM your address.

New Epson RD-2? I would like this to happen. Then Nikon could go ahead with their version of a DRF, SP-digi .. (Someone, anyone, a dignified name needed!). All the concern (err..some of the concern) about Leica going down the tubes, if Nikon went digital RF, was never an issue with me. Nothing like a bit of fierce competition but I probably still couldn't gather the wherewithal to benefit...

Hi Joe:

Thank you for braving the feeding frenzy.

Others:
I’m simply asking the question from what I presumed to be knowledgeable photographers. A lot of photography is about empathy and being in touch, which some of these posters seems to be in short supply – the passive-aggressive syndrome.

Mine is not a legal argument where I need to show proof or signed affidavit. I simply read it in one of magazines and posed the question. Exactly what magazine I do not recall at this point.

If you know nothing about my question simply say you don’t know.

Loosen up. Take some snaps. Lose the passive-aggressive stuff.

Regards –

Paul
