any fuji users thinking about the new 15-45 fuji zoom?
it is tiny and has i.s. and almost macro focusing...
it's part of the xc line with the plastic mount but the other 2 lenses in that line are pretty good.

B&H has preorder for $299 - the cheapest Fuji lens, if that price holds. If it's as good as the other XC lenses, the wide setting alone makes it a no-brainer. Yes, I know it won't be in the same league as the 14 and the 16 - still, as a walk-around lens on a light-weight body? I'm in. I may get an A5 to go with it just for kicks.

i'm thinking it's a great fit on the xe3...
been looking for a shot of the lens extended but no luck so far.

$299 usd is $375 cdn.

It sounds interesting, but have to agree with the manual (my preference) or power zoom.

It makes me feel a bit strange as I was so anti Nikon Series E glass, and the EM, FG family. Many were fine, and dang lots of lasted a lot longer than I ever expected.

Might be the best lens for my wife so she can barrow my XE-2. Manual legacy glass is so not her style.

Length and Focal Length Memory Info

Length and Focal Length Memory Info

Here's what FUJIFILM published about the lens' length.

External dimensions: Diameter x Length (approx.)(distance from camera lens mount flange)
Φ62.6mm x 44.2mm (Collapsed position)
Φ62.6mm x 65.2mm (Wide)
Φ62.6mm x 62.1mm (Telephoto)

There is only a ~3 mm charge in length going from wide to telephoto.

But the length increases by ~18 to ~21 mm when awaked from sleep mode.

The article also states:

"The funciton of interval timer shooting can be used only at the 23mm wide end on a 35mm format when the lens is combined with cameras other than FUJIFILM X-A5. It is because the lens collapses at SLEEP and returns to the initial wide angle position at ON."

I guess something was lost in translation (on a 35mm format?). However it seems the lens has some ability to remember the last used focal-length setting. I wonder if this applies as well when the camera was powered off?

so i just signed up for the first one to hit edmonton...at least i'm first on the list and there is no delivery date for when the store gets their stock.

thanks willie...it's what i figured but i could not find the answer anywhere.

btw, i have been looking at your website and discovered some really nice images...good work!

I like the idea of a 15-45. It's wider than the 18-55 which is a plus. Unfortunately, it's an XC lens, which means it doesn't have an aperture ring, which like the 27, is a non-starter for me. Crazy as it seems, the aperture ring is one of the reasons I selected Fuji; it handles like a film camera. Otherwise, I would have gone with the Sony.

Nah, not enough pluses to outweigh the negatives. Lack of manual zoom as well as aperture control kills it for me. When do we get an updated 18/f2???? That's my next purchase.

Close focus, electronic control... Fuji has created a selfie lens for the New Xa5.
It's great Fuji is trying to catch some otherwise phone users.
The electronic zoom/control is cool for phone app use.

Joe, I'm not sure why you would want this lens.... 15mm vs 16mm will barely be a noticeable difference.
I would even guess the 15mm after Distortion correction will not appear as wide as you f1.4/16mm.
It's Difficult to imagine this zoom displacing other lenses in your kit.
Are you planing a Selfie Phase ?

i don't care much for selfies...
i think it will be a small, lightweight, sharp kick around lens...i use the 27 in that way and i hope to use this tiny zoom in the same manner.
xc does not bother me at all...the glass is good and i don't need a steel mount for such a lightweight lens. and should i crack some delinquent across the head for trying to steal it i won't be out much money.
